Quick Interview with Vicki Lewis Thompson

Today I have a quick Q & A with Vicki Lewis Thompson author of The Hex Series based in Big Knob, Indiana.

Her newest book is Casual Hex, the third book in the Hex series. You can read my review of Casual Hex at Night Owl Romance as well as a review of the second book in the Hex series, Wild and Hexy.

Welcome Vicki, thank you for joining us for a little Q & A here at Fang-tastic Books. It's always wonderful to get the chance to learn more about an author and the books she writes.

Let's get started.

Your Hex series is fun and quirky, how did the idea for a match making witch and wizard pop into your head? And the characters...an ADD dragon- he is so funny, and I love the poker playing raccoons, where did those guys come from?

I'm not sure where the witch and wizard came from, but I'm so glad they showed up, because they're an important connecting link for the series. As for George, my daughter helped me find him. I was halfway through the first book and I felt it needed something more, something . . . unusual. So I asked Audrey and she started throwing out ideas for magical creatures. When she said "dragon," I knew that was it, and I also knew he'd be goofy. I'm pretty sure the poker-playing raccoons arrived once George was in the forest.

You seem to have a special place in your heart for the underdog, the nerdy guys (and girls), why is that?

I'm an introverted writer, LOL, so of course I relate to the person over in the corner who's a little unsure of his or her next move. I find small insecurities endearing, but of course my hero and heroine always show tremendous courage when the chips are down. It's that old Clark Kent/Superman combination.

Your newest book, Casual Hex, turns the tables from the nerdy guy to the nerdy girl, why did you switch the formula?

You wouldn't believe how many emails arrived begging me to make the girl nerdy for a change, so this is my gift to all those readers who wanted a nerd-girl as a heroine. I loved giving her two gorgeous men to juggle!

Yeah, wouldn't we all love to juggle two gorgeous men. :-)

Can you tell the readers a little more about the Hex series and your newest book, Casual Hex?

You bet! The Hex series is set in the imaginary small town of Big Knob, Indiana, where a matchmaking witch and wizard were banished for magical misdeeds. Their assignment is to rehabilitate the rambunctious dragon living in the nearby forest, but George doesn't take all their time, so they dabble in matchmaking on the side. Each book deals with a different couple, plus George's continued struggle to earn his golden scales and become a true guardian of the forest.

In Casual Hex, a wallflower finds herself pursued by two gorgeous guys, a sexy Frenchman from Paris, and a magical prince from the Kingdom of Atwood. The matchmaking witch and wizard referee, trying to make sure that true love wins out, while also wrangling George the dragon and his habit of playing poker with the raccoons.

Are you planning more books in the Hex series? If so when will they be available?

To shake things up a bit, I created a two-book spin-off from the Hex series. Blonde with a Wand comes out in February, 2010, and Chick with a Charm comes out in March, 2010. Two sisters, both witches and both living in Chicago, search for true love. The first sister makes the mistake of turning her current boyfriend into a black cat, which creates obvious complications, and the second sister gives a love potion to a man she admires, only to discover that wasn't her best idea ever. The matchmaking witch and wizard from the Hex series figure into both stories because they're able to make trips to Chicago from their home in Big Knob, Indiana.

What are you currently working on right now?

A complete departure! In the midst of all the stories about magic, Harlequin approached me to write a series of books for Blaze, all connected by a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. So beginning in 2010, sexy cowboys will be part of the mix. Although the stories won't be paranormal, I am planning to include a spot sacred to the Native Americans on the ranch property, and that spot will have a healing influence on my characters.

I know writing must keep you very busy, but what do you like to do in your spare time, if you have any :-) ?

I'm trying desperately to develop hobbies so I don't write all the time, LOL. I just got back into yoga, and I fool around with Tarot, although I'm certainly no expert reader! I'm constantly dreaming up new decorating schemes for my house. I'm starting to grow herbs, but I have a black thumb so I'm not sure how that will work out. I also love working jigsaw puzzles. And of course, reading, always reading.

Again, Thanks so much for the Q and A. I know you are very busy we appreciate that you take the time to connect with the readers. We all look forward to your next book.

Great! Thanks so much. Wonderful questions. :-)

Warm wishes,
Vicki

Vicki sent along a cool tote bag and some signed postcards that feature the covers of her books. Drop by Friday for your chance to win these goodies along with a few other things I tucked into the tote.

Vampire Poetry Monday-Sisters in Shadows

Vampire poetry Monday poem- Sisters in Shadows

I am running out of vampire poetry, anyone want to submit theirs?

Sisters in Shadows

Waking in a dark embrace encountering
the black velvet petals of night
Thirsting for the need of satisfaction
frenzied claws tear at burning flesh
Writhing bodies fall onto cold, hard stone
to start passion’s play
Ivory fangs tangle in silken hair
caresses fall on porcelain skin
Breast on breast with no entering course
licking sweet nectar between satiny thighs
Drinking sacred wine from the marble body chalice
coursing blood through pulsating veins
Pleasure is sweet pain

A Review of Lady and the Vamp by Michelle Rowen

Four Fangs for Lady and the Vamp

Lady and the Vamp is Michelle Rowen's third book in her Immortality Bites series.

It is fun and flirty and a great read.

It's pretty clear that Janie and Michael were destined to be together...too bad they don't seem to think so.

I am one of those people that believes there are no such things as coincidences. Everything happens for a reason and Janie and Michael were childhood acquaintances that seem to keep meeting up...on the wrong side of each other's weapons.

Good thing they are so hot for each other the weapons are left unused. However everyone keeps encouraging them to kill each other. So not a good way to start a relationship. Good thing neither one of them is very good doing what people tell them to do.

They both want the Eye and are kinda willing to kill for it, just not each other. They aren't the only one's that want the magical Eye and the others, well they'll stop at nothing to get it.

Lady and the Vamp is a fast paced quick read and a wild and sexy romp that will leave you wondering will they or won't they?

This is the first book I've read of Michelle Rowen's and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the Immortality Bites series.

Guest Author Caridad Pineiro and her Free Book Friday Giveaway

Today we have the fabulous author of many, many books including her fang-tastic vampire series, The Calling, Caridad Pineiro.

Caridad is going to tell us a bit about her series and do a giveaway for Free Book Friday.

Welcome Caridad, thank you for joining us today at Fang-tastic Books.

I want to thank you for letting me visit and share the world of The Calling vampire novels. The Calling is a series of my heart and I’ve been very lucky to be able to continue it with Silhouette Nocturne.

I created the world of The Calling back in 2003 when I was going through a dark phase in my writing and decided I needed a change. I wanted to try my hand at something dark and edgy. Plus, I’d had a very positive response to the female FBI Agent in my very first book and wanted to do a series featuring a female FBI Agent. Since I worked in New York City and loved the many facets of Manhattan, I decided that would be the perfect location for my vampire underworld.

That’s how The Calling was born. To date there have been 7 novels and 3 novellas, but each one stands alone in the series, although those readers who have been following the series love seeing old characters pop up in either cameo or secondary roles in later stories.

The two current releases in The Calling, HONOR CALLS and FURY CALLS, feature both new and familiar characters.

In HONOR CALLS, my February Nocturne Bite, I’ve brought back a character who may be familiar to some readers – FBI Assistant Director in Charge Jesus Hernandez. Since DARKNESS CALLS, he’s been in the periphery of the stories, advising Diana and her partner during their assignments. Always calm and reserved and functioning by the letter of the law. Honorably discharging his duties until the day he runs into Michaela, a vampire slayer who’s now challenging what Jesus knows to be the right thing to do. What will win out -- honor or Michaela’s need for vengeance against the vampires who killed her mother and forever changed Michaela’s existence? I’m looking forward to writing a full story around these characters in the future.

FURY CALLS is definitely one of my favorites in THE CALLING series. It features Blake Richards, a hesitant hero if ever there was one, who finds the strength to reveal his true self and redeem himself in the eyes of not only the vampire underworld, but the young woman who he turned four years earlier. The heroine, Meghan Thomas, is a young coed who lost her life thanks to Blake’s actions but has found the strength to build a new one as a vampire. Her anger at Blake is hopelessly entangled with her attraction for him and the love which is slowly growing as Blake proves himself time and time again. The villain in FURY CALLS is an Asian vampire – a Kiang-shi – with very different powers and little regard for life. Sun Tze Lee, the villain, takes what he wants and as you will discover during the story, that taking mirrors Blake’s tortured past.

There are two other THE CALLING vampire novels coming out in 2010, namely ARDOR CALLS and VENGEANCE CALLS. In ARDOR CALLS, fans will see an old favorite – Stacia, the vampire elder – get her own unique twist in The Calling since this story will be set in Miami. In VENGEANCE CALLS, we’ll see two totally new characters as the heroes and I hope readers will enjoy the visit to the series from a different kind of immortal.

Besides writing about vampires, I do romantic suspense with other paranormal elements. In 2007, I participated in the NY Times bestselling anthology MOON FEVER and my contribution was a story about a clan of shapeshifters in the Amazon.

In November of this year I will be releasing the first book in an exciting new paranormal romantic suspense series – SINS OF THE FLESH – from Grand Central Forever. SINS OF THE FLESH is the story of Mick Carrera, a mercenary hired to find and bring in a ruthless killer–no matter what. But when his target turns out to be Caterina Shaw, a celebrated cellist suffering from a terminal illness, the lines between innocent and guilty blur. Instead of a violent criminal Mick finds an injured woman who, having undergone what she believed to be experimental gene therapy treatments, possesses some unusual powers…. Mick soon realizes that Caterina was just a pawn in a terrible game–one that will claim more victims unless they can clear her name and capture the true criminal.

Guest Author Angie Fox

Today we have a special guest blogger, Angie Fox, author of The Accidental Demon Slayer and the upcoming release The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers

Here's a quick blurb for The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers

Accidental demon slayer Lizzie Brown and her grandma’s coven of biker witches have rolled into Sin City to take out a super-sexy succubus who has her eye on world domination – and worse, Lizzie’s man.

Welcome Angie, thank you for joining us today!

Thanks for having me on Fang-Tastic Books! I’m really excited to be here and to give away the very first copy of The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, hot of the press.

This book was a blast to write, and I learned a valuable lesson too: be careful what you write…because it may just send you to some, ahem, unusual places. See, I write about a reluctant demon slayer forced to run off with a gang of geriatric biker witches. Add that to the fact that I tend to write what amuses me and you have a recipe for trouble.

When I was writing the end of my first book, The Accidental Demon Slayer, this joke about Las Vegas popped into my head and I thought, “why not?” Lizzie is just about to kiss her man when she’s interrupted and told she and the gang have to head to Las Vegas to save her long lost uncle from marrying a succubus. Kind of fun. At least it made me smile. I was an unpublished writer at the time.

But then the book sold. Better still, The Accidental Demon Slayer hit the New York Times bestseller list. My publisher wanted more. Heck, I wanted to write more. I remember being on the phone with my editor and she said, “so you’re going to Las Vegas, right?”

Oh yeah.

I admit it. I had these images of cool hotels and shows in my head. Then reality hit. I write about biker witches and a preschool teacher turned demon slayer. These folks don’t have a lot of spare cash lying around. This wasn’t my trip – it was theirs. Good thing I like odd adventures. And my friends do too.

One in particular – my friend Aileen – is a sucker for anything strange and unusual. So I talked her into a long weekend and we headed to Vegas to see and experience the biker witch version of Sin City. We stayed in the cheesiest hotels we could find. We ate at Bob’s Big Boy. We even visited a dude ranch with armadillos, a boar and several very old chickens.

We were able to talk our way into some behind-the-scenes places as well. The climax of The Accidental Demon Slayer takes place inside the Hoover Dam, and we were lucky enough to be invited to see first-hand what I’d be writing about. A guide took us far down into the inspection tunnels they used in the 1930’s and 40’s, when the cement was still curing. It was amazing to see the notes these inspectors made on the walls, to hear the stories of those that didn’t quite make it out and to walk the same old metal steps that they did. All of that made it into The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, along with lots of things I had a blast making up (this is fiction after all).

And to celebrate the release of The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers next month, I’m going to give one away, fresh off the press. In fact, it won’t even come off the press until the week of April 1. In the mean time, you can read the first chapter here.

To enter to win a copy of The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers just leave a comment on this post. A winner will randomly be chosen.

Thanks for dropping by Angie!

The The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers can be pre-ordered at Amazon.com

Winner Wednesday

Congrats to Nikki K who is the winner of The Everything Green Wedding Book by Wenona Napolitano.

Vampire Poetry Monday - Ritual

Hello all. It's Monday so it's time for another one of my erotic vampire poems. Enjoy!

Ritual

The room smelled of blood soaked wine and sex
black satin sheets and velvet pillows
covered your sacred altar
Red candles dripped bloody wax
Marble statues moved among the flickering
light and incense smoke
You led me to my destiny
Wide open for penetration
Stroking yourself, you watched as
one by one they thrust into me
cold marble cocks in tight burning flesh
so many took their turn
then it was yours
You came to me, licking
swollen lips and soothing bruised skin
Lifting me up only to impale me
on your hard, cold sword
As I lay there bleeding
you drank of me

A Review of White Witch, Black Curse by Kim Harrison

Four Fangs for White Witch, Black Curse By Kim Harrison

I am a little disappointed with White Witch, Black Curse. I can't quite put my finger on it but something was lacking in this book that is normally in the other books. The magic that Kim Harrison can put into words is something amazing but it wasn't there through most of this book. I didn't start feeling the magic until close to the end.

I have been waiting for the 7th book in The Hollows Series to see what happens with Rachel Morgan next and after the bombshells that were dropped in the last book I expected...I don't know more revelations, more ties revealed, more dots connected I suppose. Now Kim Harrison did clear up everything about Kisten's death and revealed his killer so that is all out of the way so Rachel can move past it. The problem is, it was all a bit too anticlimactic for Rachel, Ivy and for me as a reader.

The book pretty much starts and ends with Rachel trying to remember, then finally remembering what happened the night Kisten died. Yet while trying to remember she gets tangled up in the mess that is her life.

The FIB wants her to track down and bring in a banshee...really bad news since they can kill without even touching you. Rachel's brother Robbie comes to town to visit and Rachel is having relationship issues as she decides what to do about Marshall. They've been hanging out for months...should she take the relationship farther?

**Warning Minor Spoilers Ahead Do Not Read Any Further Unless You Want to Know**

To top it all off Rachel learns she has a ghost in the church...and who should that ghost be? Pierce (read the Holidays From Hell Collection, Harrison takes us back to when Rachel is 18 and she conjures up Pierce). So throughout the book Rachel is obsessed with giving Pierce a body...again. But something isn't right about Pierce we just don't get to know what...Harrison drops clues but of course leaves the trail going at the end of the book so we don't know what the heck is going on.

Jenks doesn't trust Pierce one bit. And Al, the demon can't keep him under control. There is definitely more to Pierce than what we see and too many coincidences for it all to be nothing. Let's see, Rachel's dad's watch, the one she used to conjure Pierce well it was originally Pierce's that's why she ended up with him instead of her dad. Then we learn that Pierce is the one buried at Rachel's church on unsanctified ground, the one with the name scratched off the tombstone and the creepy angel statue...yeah, that's Pierce. Creepy and not a coincidence. Then there's the fact that Pierce seems to be really smart and powerful and can evade a demon. Hmmm... yet we don't learn much of this until the end of the book.

Most of the book focuses on Rachel's inner turmoil and her battling the banshee that keeps ripping apart her aura and leaving her weak. I guess it was a major plot that would lead Rachel to where she is now. You know her growth as a character but I felt a lot of it was blah, blah, blah. Nad rachel even manages to get herself shunned which doesn't get cleared up. This is really going to make her life harder.

Rachel's interaction with key players in the series was absent until close to the end when both Trent and Al were finally given larger roles in the book. And Ceri was absent through the entire book, just a mention here and there but she was never on screen. I want to know more about Al and Trent. There is a lot underlying there that we have not been introduced to yet. Al and Rachel's relationship is weird. He torments her yet I get the feeling he protects her as well, he seemed to be very concerned about Rachel sleeping with Pierce and Pierce killing Rachel. Jealous? Hmmm. Does Al have a thing for Rachel? I don't know, I sometimes get that vibe.

And then there's the whole Trent and Rachel thing. Now that is complex as hell. I really feel a vibe there but I don't know where that is going to lead. Trent fears Rachel yet is drawn to her. They have a shared connection, a history Rachel doesn't remember all of and Trent seems to want her to remember. She saves his butt all the time and he makes her cry, why does she get so worked up over him if she doesn't care? And even Jenks thinks she should play nice with Trent.

Those are the two characters I really want to see more of with Rachel, Al and Trent. Of course Harrison will string us along because we want to know and if she revealed all well there might not be anymore books.

I just think White Witch, Black Curse was lacking a bit of focus yet it was still a phenomenal book and I really want more. The last part of the book was the best and really got me excited though I knew she was going to cut out the good stuff just to leave me wanting more. Which I do. A lot more.

Welcome Guest Author Kristin Battestella

Today we have a special guest blogger, Kristin Battestella author of The Vampire Family.

Good Day Pale Friends, to our special visit at FangTastic!

The Vampire Family began life as a simple vampire story passed among friends in high school way back when. Since its 2008 ebook release from Eternal Press, The Vampire Family has grown in popularity due to hype from online stalwarts such as Paranormal Romance, Coffee Time Romance, Fallen Angel Reviews, and Night Owl Romance among others. This month, the undead buzz exploded for our paperback release, currently available on Amazon. In addition to virtual appearances, I've visited the Philadelphia Book Festival and the Collingswood Book festival in support of The Vampire Family.

Blending horror, dark fantasy, and paranormal romance; the trials and tribulants of The Vampire Family are tough to pigeon hole. There's plenty of historical action, contemporary horror, ill fated romance, and dastardly vampire covens to span the novel's journey from 12th century Britain to the 21st century and beyond.

Here's a Blurb:

Sadistic? Check. Domination? Check. Happiness? Not for all. Antonio Welshire accepts the mysterious Mestiphles' offer for vampiric power, but fails to consider that not all in his family desires evil.

Daughter Victoria revels in the debauchery, but eldest daughter Samantha loathes the darkness. Enemies are in no short supply when the family turns to darkness.

Charismatic rebel Gaston turns up to rival for Antonio's power; the vampire lover Jean can destroy them once and for all, and henchwoman Lilith seeks to supplant Antonio as Mestiphles' favorite. Who will be declared the victor?

And in the end, though they've survived coven wars and persecutions since the 12th century, can The Vampire Family survive each other?

Killing his abusive parents isn't enough for Antonio Welshire. Rape and death follow him through his youth in the 12th Century-until a stranger named Mestiphles give Antonio unimaginable vampire powers. Fearful yet captivated by his allure, Antonio's adopted sisters Ann and Elizabeth share this gift with him and their children-Victoria, James, Samantha, and Stephen. Antonio is a cruel ruler , and after his defeat of the young rebel Gaston, Antonio struggles with Lilith-another magical pet also created by Mestiphles.

Antonio's vampire family grows over the centuries, each vampire loving and losing vampire fledglings over time. Wars, persecutions come and go, but the family's troubles always stem from within. Elizabeth may be his wife, but Ann supplants her as Antonio's mistress. By the 20th century, Elizabeth has found love again-unfortunately her fledgling Jean share's Samantha's disdain for the vampire life. Will The Vampire Family self destruct before the 21st Century?

And now a quick excerpt:

“Catherine?” Antonio’s shadowy figure stood at her door. The tiny flame shortened in a clump of wax as the maid looked up.

“Yes, sir?” She set down her quill. “You sound different, sir. Are you ill?”

“Yes.” He stepped toward her. “I need your help.” The dim light shined in his face. He couldn’t see. His eyes felt bloodshot, and his hands seemed pale as the candle flickered. He put his hands on Catherine’s arms. She felt warm to his cold touch. Sharp teeth cut the inside of his lips. Antonio’s voice trembled. His hands shook. “I need your help.”

“Of course, sir.” She put her arms on his, but Antonio shook and felt the muscles of his forearm clench. “What can I do? Here, sit down.”

His arms came around her waist. Antonio heard her blood rush and saw her face flush. He put his head down on her chest. She trembled, but held Antonio’s head.

“Such overwhelming!” He spoke more to himself than Catherine. His words and hot breath were muffled against her. “Now I know what Mestiphles meant. I know what to do. I need to do it. I have to have it!”

“I’ll get some water.” Catherine was about to get up, but Antonio clenched his hands tighter around her.

“No,” he said hoarsely. His nails dug into her sides, and she winced. Antonio relaxed his grip, and she allowed his hands to roam. He unlaced her dressing gown. His hands stopped shaking, and bewitched, Catherine gave him total control. He pulled the loosened gown off her shoulders and swept Catherine to her feet in one swift motion. Yes, he knew she was captivated and paralyzed. He could be so frightening, yet masculine and desirable. Antonio put his head to her neck and bit the pumping jugular.

She flinched, but her blood flowed into Antonio’s mouth. The short life drain was ecstatic, but soon grew empty. Her life was now in him. Antonio let Catherine’s limp body fall to the bed. He had her, and now he wanted more.

Torrid Teasers Volume 59

I have an ebook coming out in June through Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, it is Torrid Teasers Volume 59. It is a double shot of paranormal erotica containing two of my short stories: Renata and The Questioning Concubine.

Here's quick sneak peak at what the stories are about followed by an early review.

Renata: The residents of the sleepy little town of Flushing, Michigan had no idea a vampire lived among them- seducing and drinking from all the men in town. Renata walked among them, blending in, taking only what she needed. One night while on the prowl for fresh blood at a carnival a handsome carnie caught her eye, she had no way of knowing he was a vampire hunter and was there for her.

The Questioning Concubine: Elita, a pure blood witch, has come home to find who or what killed her parents and to take her rightful place as the head of the coven. After 5 years of investigating and exhausting all conventional methods at her disposal she decides to do the one thing a good witch should never do, summon a demon. The demon is not what she expected. Elita is soon swept up in his power… and her own.

“Renata”

Renata is a vampire living peacefully in Michigan small town. She needs blood and sex to survive along with the occasional kill to satiate her inner predator. There a few hunters that kill vampires indiscriminately, so she must us caution. While hunting, Renata meets a gorgeous man that’s irresistible. There’s something odd about him, setting off warning bell but she just can’t say no.

Renata is a saucy heroine who’s sexy, smart and totally self sufficient. With the to-the-point character driven plot, “Renata” made for an overall delightful read. The brief, background history of the town and how vampires adapted into the modern world worked really well in the narrative. Throw in an unexpected twist and loads of blazing sex, and the outcome boils on high for a gooey-warm ending.

“The Questioning Concubine”

A young witch is desperate to find out who killed her parents and why. As a last resort, she takes the plunge and summons a demon. OK, so he’s not what she expected a demon to be. However, that doesn’t stop the instant and electrifying attraction.

Initially, the title threw me off the scent while tweaking my curiosity. Once I gained my reading momentum, it was sizzling-smooth, eyeballs-meets-mind goodness. The writing flexes its wonderfully visual muscles while my mental senses happily quivered from the intake. My only complaint was everything seemed to come to a screeching halt. But hey, it’s an excellent sign when you really don’t want a story to end.

Humorous, spicy and sweet, Torrid Teasers Volume 59 was definitely reading-time well spent. I didn’t know what to expect from scene to scene either, definitely a bonus. Roxanne Rhoads brings in fresh touches to each segment. I like reading the Torrid Teasers series because you get to sample an author’s work along with a double dose of their creativity. This latest installment by Ms. Rhoads lives up to all the erotically charged romance I’ve come to associate with the series.

A Review of The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Annette Blair

Five Fangs for The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Annette Blair has done it again. The third book in her witch series, The Scot, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is funny, sexy and magical. Blair always delivers sizzling stories full of humor, fun, snappy dialogue and steamy encounters.

In this installment Victoria Cartwright, owner of the vintage clothing shop, The Immortal Classic (if you've read the other two books in the series you'll be familiar with both Victoria and her store) has finally decided to test her fate and see if the family heirloom key will open the wardrobe.

The family legend says that the woman who can open the wardrobe will inherit the powers of Lili, the family matriarch and most powerful witch in the line. Not only will the one that opens the wardrobe inherit the magic she will also meet her destiny...whatever that means.

Victoria, who claims not to be a witch, finally tries the key...and the wardrobe opens. Inside she finds a beautiful hand carved unicorn from an old carousel that she learns is worth a fortune, though she doesn't want to sell it.

Soon after Victoria finds the unicorn the man of her dreams, literally, walks into her store. A gruff Scot full of cockiness and attitude Rory isn't looking for romance he just wants the unicorn so he can end the curse on his family. Too bad he falls for Victoria instantly.

The two can't seem to stand each other though they can't stay apart either and keep finding themselves in each others arms both in dreams and in reality.

Will Victoria ever accept that she's a witch and that she's beautiful and can Rory break the family curse without breaking Victoria's heart?

Only time will tell if they can overcome a past that's not even theirs and live out their dreams in reality.

Who can resist a Scottish brogue and a man in a kilt? Not me! Yummy. Scottish men are sexy and Rory is no exception.

Blair has a way with men and magic.

Her books are always highly entertaining and charged with such energy, emotion and fun. They always leave you satisfied with the story you just finished yet wanting more at the same time. Just like good sex. The better it is, the more you want. And Blair delivers just like a good lover. She'll keep me coming back for more...of her books.

A Review of Never Been Witched by Annette Blair

Five Fangs for Never Been Witched

Never Been Witched third book in the Triplet Witch Trilogy by Annette Blair

This review is by CCButterfly who will be reviewing books here from time to time.

"Destiny's heartbeat trembled. Fear stole her breath, prickling her from the roots of her hair to the tips of her toes. She shivered and clutched her cat so tightly that Cara meowed and jumped from her grasp to examine and 'talk' to the little girl."

Destiny knew the little girl was just one of the three ghosts.

Never Been Witched is an exceptional book to read, leaving me anxious to read more from Annette Blair. Although this is the last book in the triplet series I plan to read more of Blair's magical books as they come out.

Never Been Witched is about one of the magical triplet witches and it is full of hilarious and spooky moments. And there are plenty of hot, sensuous scenes to make your temperature rise. This book will really keep you on your toes with all the twists and turns.

Destiny is one of the triplets, so far the only one whose story has not been told. Now she's trying to avoid her attraction to paranormal debunker Morgan Jarvis. The harder they try to stay away from one another the closer they get. Soon they are alone in a spooky old lighthouse, just the two of them...and a few ghosts.

You won't want to put this book down until you finish reading the very last page. The book is filled with so much comedy it keeps you laughing...and not just once in awhile but all the way through the book. If you like lots of humor combined with sizzling romance and a dash of magic this book is for you.

Vampire Poetry Monday- Fear and Fantasy

Another erotic vampire poem for your reading pleasure!

Fear and Fantasy

Drink your fill of nightmares
While my delicious dreams
cross bloodstained lips
The pleasure goddess
plants crimson kisses
upon luminous skin
Velvet masked figures lurk
among the shifting shades of night
I surrender to centuries of
sexual experience
An intimate fantasy of seduction
Terror and arousal fill the air
as all my sexual wishes are granted

A Review of Death's Daughter by Amber Benson

3 Fangs for Death's Daughter by Amber Bensen

If you are a fan of the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer (sadly in rerun land now) you probably know Amber Bensen best as Tara, Willow's witchy girlfriend. I had to get this book just because of that, well that and it's a paranormal read. I guess Bensen has been pretty busy since leaving Buffy but this is the first time she's popped into my radar so I haven't read any of the series of novels she co wrote with Christopher Golden.

I started Death's Daughter several times but it didn't hold my attention so I kept putting it down as new more exciting books fell into my hands. It's not that it's a bad book, because it's not, the writing style isn't bad either. I just think the voice didn't fit into my head very well. The protagonist was not a fit for me as an older woman (and by older I don't mean ancient, I'm only in my 30s but I am nowhere close to being so self absorbed and materialistic as the young 20 something Calliope Reaper-Jones).

Death's Daughter opens with Calliope Reaper-Jones a normal young woman living in New York City (yuck) hoping to work her way into the the fashion world but is instead stuck in the Home and Garden sector. She bemoans her fate the whole time, complaining about her life with interspersed longing for shopping trips to buy trendy high fashion clothing. She rambles (and I do mean rambles) on and on about her everyday life...blah. blah..blah. Then suddenly there's a dragon guarding the entrance to her building....what??? Then other weird things happen and suddenly there's a half man half goat (?) joining her in the ladies room at work telling her that her father has been kidnapped.

Suddenly it all comes rushing back to her, thanks to goat boy-Jarvis. She is Death's Daughter and now it's her job to take over Death Inc, deal with the devil and find her father. She had placed a forgetting spell on herself so she could live a normal life and not be part of her magical one. Boo Hoo. God, Calliope she bitches about her normal world and about her real one. She isn't happy with anything. Oh boo hoo I am immortal and it sucks! I am sick of that shtick. That got old after the 7th or 8th Anne Rice vampire novel (and no I am so NOT dissing Anne Rice, that is where my whole obsession with vampires started).

The whole book is a bit wishy washy in that teenager-young twenties melodrama stuff. All the things that make glad I am not that young anymore (if I ever was) and makes me want to stick a fork in my eye instead of dealing with many young people like that. Anyway, that's how the character in this book comes off with a little more substance and backbone but still not someone I'd want to hang with.

I think the whole New York, materialistic, label name dropping, and designer crap turned me off.

I did finally finish the book though. Pretty standard finish, kinda expected most of it. A few twists and turns I didn't see coming but the rest was uh huh and?

To be fair I think I am in a totally bitchy mood today because I don't feel good and I am taking it out on this poor book. Sorry, Amber. Sorry book.

To be honest I did not totally hate it. I finally got engrossed in it about half way through it just took longer than usual to hook me. I love books that grab me on the first page. To be really candid though, Kim Harrison's first Rachel book, Dead Witch Walking didn't grab me right away either. It took a chapter or two to pull me in, thankfully I kept at it because now the Hollows is one of my most favorite series ever.

Anyway, back to Death's Daughter. It was worth the read, but I won't be scrambling to read the rest of the books in the series. I am sure many die hard Buffy fans will probably skewer me for this review. Sorry guys. I love Buffy but I can't totally love the book just because an actress that played a role on the show wrote it.

OK, I am off to take more medicine and work on not being cranky. Fat chance at that today.

Vampire Poetry Monday -Midnight Mistress

Hope you enjoy this weeks poem.

Midnight Mistress

Sexy, dark and mysterious
She is the mistress of the night
Goddess under the moonlight
Part vixen, part vamp
She will bewitch and seduce with her
bedroom eyes in an angel’s face
and a body designed for pleasure.
You will succumb to her charms
and beg for more as she drinks in
your desire.
As pleasure and pain mingle
in the darkness,
her love will drive you insane

A Review of Would-Be Witch by Kimberly Frost

Five Fangs for Would-Be Witch by Kimberly Frost

What is it about authors with the last name Frost totally heating up the page with their out of this world paranormal fiction?

First Jeaniene Frost did it and now Kimberly Frost has completely blown me away with her words.

Would-Be Witch is a fabulous debut novel that hooked me on the very first page. After that I couldn't put the book down. I read it in one night. I just had to know what happened and see what was next. Now I am so bummed cause I want more of The Southern Witch Series but I'll have to wait until September for the second book, Barely Bewitched.

In Would-Be Witch, Tammy Jo Trask comes from a long line of witches. Too bad the magic seems to have fizzled out by the time it got to her. The only spells Tammy Jo seems to be able to whip up are those created with sugar and frosting. As a witch she sucks but as a confectioner she totally rocks...until she gets fired from her job for refusing to cave under the pressure of the town bitch. So now she finds herself totally broke and jobless and hopping from one magical mishap to another. She sure finds herself in a lot of magic related trouble for a woman with no magic powers.

And then men in her life...hell yeah. Sexy but alpha in a kinda-bad-normal-man-bad way- ex-husband Zach (who she is still sleeping with, he didn't get the memo they were divorced or something) is wonderful and terrible at the same time. Overbearing and boorish, completely clueless about some things, yet loyal, sweet and loving at the same. So he's pretty much your every day southern guy. Then there's Bryn...oh give me some of him. Sexy wizard with loads of money, he's smart, sexy, completely debonair and seems to be completely taken with Tammy Jo. Not to mention yummy as hell.

Then you add in the other colorful characters in this book: funny Southern belle best friend Georgia, out of the picture and who-knows-where mother and twin sister aunt, Edie the ghost of Tammy's great great grandmother's twin sister, and then there's the local gay/asian/psychic hairdresser Johnny Nguyen Ho whose boyfriend is a cross dressing vampire. Wow. And let's not forget Bryn's gift to Tammy Jo, a strange kitty named Mercutio who turns out to be an ocelot. But more than that he's Tammy's best friend and protector who seems to completely understand everything she says and protects her better than anyone else.

Good thing too cause with a pack of crazy werewolves after her Tammy needs all the help she can get while trying to find her family's locket containing the spirit of Edie before October 24th. But she needs to do it without getting killed or causing too much magical mayhem. Yeah, so much for that.

I love Kimberly Frost's world. She has completely captured the Southern Texas charm and wrapped it into a magical world of wizards, witches, ghosts, werewolves, zombies, and cross dressing vampires. And Tammy is so wonderful. Beautiful, clueless, snappy, sassy and obviously bursting at the seems with power she doesn't even realize she has- all wrapped up in a small town southern charm package complete with a sexy drawl bow.

I can't wait to see what kind of trouble this wickedly funny witch gets herself into next.

I've never read anything like Would-Be Witch before. I can't even explain the complete and utter charm this book holds. Frost has captured something truly magical between the pages of this book. Amazing debut novel, a must read for fans of the paranormal. Witty and wickedly sexy you'll be hooked in an instant. Frsot has cast a spell you won't be able to resist. A fabulous new series that's being added to my list of must have reads. .

Well done, Kimberly! (Who by the way is a former Michigander turned Texan!) I love your way with words.

Vampire Teen Fiction: Check Out Hunted by P.C. and Kisten Cast

"The House of Night
is a thrillingly engaging book series from St. Martin's Press.

The series follows 16-year-old Zoey Redbird, who gets “Marked” by a vampyre tracker and begins to undergo the Change into an actual vampyre.

For the first time in hardcover, HUNTED finds Zoey Redbird at her most powerful and in her most important role yet.

The New York Times best selling mother-daughter writing team of P.C. and Kristin Cast again prove why they have become a major force in teen fiction. With over 3 million copies of their books in print, a well-publicized film option, an updated interactive website, daily-growing fanbase, and now a first national book tour, the Cast duo will command your attention with every page turn. "

Interested? Read the first chapter here. Want more? You can listen to an audio of the second chapter below (just hit the play button) and you can even watch a book trailer on youtube.

Hunted is the fifth book in The House of Night Series.

This sounds like a totally cool series both my daughter and I would love. I also really love that it is written by a mother daughter writing team. Maybe someday me and my girl will be writing together. Until then I have to get ahold of these books for my daughter (and me).

As Shadows Fade by Colleen Gleason Hits Stores Tuesday

The fifth and final book in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles, As Shadows Fade, by Colleen Gleason hits stores tomorrow!

I just finished writing my review of As Shadows Fade for Night Owl Romance, here's the link to read the review.

I am so sad to see another great series end.

News from Colleen says she has another series coming out next year, but not historical and nothing vampiric. I am most shocked about the historical, that's been her niche but now she is diving into contemporary with paranormal elements. I am intrigued, can't wait to learn more.

I hope to make it to one of her book signings coming up. This Saturday she'll be at the Brighton Borders. So far she hasn't scheduled a Flint appearance like she normally does, I was hoping she would drop by my town but I guess I'll drive out to Brighton or Ann Arbor to see her maybe even Lansing, we'll see how schedules work out.

If you are in Michigan here is her signing schedule, try to drop by and see her.

03.14.09 – Ann Arbor, MI

A Review of The Girl's Guide to Vampires

.5
I give The Girl's Guide to Vampires three and a half fangs

On the heels of the Twilight Phenomenon comes The Girl's Guide to Vampires, an everything guide for the YA set who wants to know more about vampires beyond Meyer's Twilight series.

The Girl's Guide to Vampires: All You Need to Know About the Original Bad Boys by Barb Karg is a fun and information packed vampire resource that not just teens and tweens will enjoy.

I am pretty far away from being a tween or teen but being a huge vampire fan I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. And now I can pass it on to my almost tween daughter who is also into all things vampish and spooky (that's my girl), she's going to flip over this book. Many books I read can't be passed a long to her until much later (due to extreme sexual content). This one though is a keeper that can be put on the bookshelf.

The Girl's Guide to Vampires contains a bit of everything vampire related: vampire lore throughout the ages and around the world, early writings about vampires, myths and legends about vampires (how they are made, their powers, etc), vampire characteristics, how to fight an immortal bad boy (channel your inner Buffy girls), literary vampires, early screen vampires, legendary vampires, movies and TV shows about vampires, and the pros and cons of being a vampire.

Thoroughly entertaining but lacking a bit. Karg's lists were a bit short and missing some vampire fan faves. For instance her television section listed Forever Knight, Buffy, Angel, and True Blood and the earlier shows like Dark Shadows and the Munsters. She skimmed over Moonlight and Kindred the Embraced and did not even mention Blood Ties. Though these shows did not do well with ratings they all had (have) a loyal fan base that still loves them and wishes the shows could be resurrected, especially Blood Ties.

And her section on current vampire books and their authors....definitely lacking but the subject matter is huge and could fill an entire book itself. I have to remind myself YA Book! Many vampire books currently out have loads of sexual content, Laurell K Hamilton anyone? Yet she did mention the Anita Blake series. Though I love, love, love Laurell's books-I don't want my daughter reading them anytime soon.

Karg's bio claims she is a vampire aficionado and I'm sure she is but many of the basic vampire topics like shows, movies, and books that she discusses in the book come off as sounding like she wrote them from research not personal knowledge. Maybe that's just how she writes because she must be super into vampires as she is also the author of The Everything Vampire Book and she is currently working on a vampire novel. Cool.

Of course maybe the text and discussions are simplified because it is a YA book. I forget what's it is like to read YA books, it's been along time, longer than most since I was reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz by the time I was 9. Hmmm....Anyway, after my daughter reads the book I'll post an update of what she thought.

All in all I recommend this book for vampire fans. It is totally suitable for your teenage daughter to be reading this vampire book, it's all fun and if she's into Twilight she'd probably like this handy little vampire resource book.
