A Review of Silver Zombie by Carole Nelson Douglas

Five Fangs for Silver Zombie

Book Description:

Zombies and Witches and Vamps . . . Oh, My!

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas—at least that’s Delilah Street’s hope. With Sin City’s vampire and werewolf mobs wanting to cash in her chips once and for all, she’s retreating with her partner Ric Montoya and half-wolfhound Quicksilver to her Kansas birthplace. Unfortunately, when it comes to finding trouble, there’s no place like home. . . .

It doesn’t take long before Delilah realizes she’s not in Vegas anymore. Zombie cowboys and spectral cattle drives are kicking up dust, the local weather girls are total witches who forecast perfect storms, and some Hollywood fanatic is recasting zombies as the greatest stars of the silver screen. And speaking of silver, Delilah’s special affinity for the all-purpose monster-repellent leads her posse straight down a silver brick road—and into a not so- fun house of mirrors—putting her face-to-face with her dicey past and a mystery woman named Lilith, who’s a real dead ringer for Delilah. The key word being dead.

My review:

This is the first Delilah Street book I've read and honestly I don't know why or how I had overlooked this series- it rocks.

I was instantly hooked on the craziness of a Las Vegas over run with supernaturals and really hooked on the men in Delilah's life.

Ric, a sexy ex-FBI agent that raises zombies and is super sizzling, a flirty vampire, and a mysterious albino supernatural (I never pictured a guy with white hair being sexy before but Snow's got something special going on) that exudes sex appeal- and mystery since he's powerful but no one seems to know exactly what he is.

Then there's her wolfhound Quicksilver. Obviously this dog is more than a dog, he's part wolf too, but I have a sneaky suspicion there's much more going on with Quick then Delilah knows. Maybe he's a man stuck in the body of the wolfhound, maybe he's something else...I don't know but I'd love to have a dog like him.

Silver Zombie started in Vegas then took a wild ride to Kansas- to Delilah's past. And wouldn't you know it her past and her present collide in a crazy "Oz" casino where all the supernatural bad guys want something and Ric and Delilah end up right in the middle of it all.

I am crazily drawn to the mystery in Delilah's life- who is she really? Where did she come from? Why did she grow up "in the system"? What is she with her crazy silver powers?

And most of all- who is Lilith? Is Lilith real or a split from Delilah's own personality. So far Delilah only sees Lilith in mirrors, never in person.

Is Lilith her alter ego or her long lost twin? Either way Lilith seems to know a lot more about "their" history than Delilah does. I must know more about Lilith and Delilah.

This series is getting added to my must read list and I'm now going to go back and start from the beginning because I want to know more about all the fascinating characters and the millennium revelation- exactly what happened. I understand the supernaturals came out of hiding but it seemed to have "changed" regular people and amp up their latent powers.
