An Entangled Guest Blog and Giveaway with Jess Macallan

I’m thrilled to be back at Fang-tastic today! I love this blog, and it’s the perfect place to be for my favorite time of year—Halloween! I love every creepy, crawly, spooky, scary part of it. Costumes are a big deal around here—my family is obsessed with the perfect getup. And pumpkins? We grow a huge pumpkin patch and top it off with an annual pumpkin carving party. When Halloween night rolls around we go trick-or-treating with a group of over 50 people, which is amazing for our small town. We could have a pretty awesome flash mob if we planned it right.

As much as I love the scary aspects of this holiday, there are a few things I could do without forever. Horrible, terrifying things that give me nightmares on a regular basis. I can handle zombies, sparkly vamps, politics and the cast of Jersey Shore. *Cough* That last one is a stretch, but I can deal. No, I have a list of my secret fears. The things that scare me into rocking on the floor in the fetal position are:

1. Dolls. No, not Barbie (which is a topic for another day). I’m talking about rooms full of dolls. Floor to ceiling, row upon row of lifeless plastic or ceramic bodies with small glass eyes staring sightlessly at you. Did you know dolls were originally created to house the souls of the dead? My neighbor has a doll collection. *shudder* She invited me over one day to drink tea and admire them. Er…no thanks. I’d rather meet Freddy Krueger on a bad day.

2. Clowns. This one’s a no-brainer. After IT, I will never look at clowns the same way. We recently did a carnival at my children’s school. One of the high school boys dressed up as a clown. I can’t tell who cried harder, some of the parents or the kids. Clowns are creepy. The more they smile, the worse it gets.

3. Spiders. I have a deep-rooted fear of arachnids. I was scarred for life the day I pulled on a pair of jeans only to find a spider in one of the pant legs. Actually, it had moved to my leg and was quickly crawling up. If you listen carefully, you can still hear the echoes of my blood curdling shrieks and my family howling with laughter. Shortly thereafter, I found out the average person ingests approximately eight spiders in their lifetime (ground up into food, beauty products, etc.) If that doesn’t freak you out, I don’t know what will.

So there you have it. My secret fears revealed. What are you secretly afraid of?

Thank you so much for having me back at Fang-tastic! I hope you’ll all come find me at:

SET IN STONE - Book One - by Jess Macallan

“Elle. It’s just Elle.”

When a regular night of Robin Hood-ery results in the manifestation of some, um, unusual paranormal abilities, perfume-maker Elleodora Fredricks realizes the normal world she lives in isn’t quite… normal. And neither is she, thanks to her father, king of the shadow elves. Not only is he evil incarnate and the reason Elle moonlights as a burglar—someone has to take care of all his victims—he’s stolen her memories.

And only reading her fate can fix that.

Good thing she’s got a trio of hotties willing to help her find said fate. Saving her oracle BFF’s fiancée, falling in love with the gargoyle, and making up for breaking the phoenix’s heart ought to be a piece of cake for the princess of the shadow elves.
If only the king didn’t want his daughter dead…

After having lived in Florida for 10 years, the one thing I'm afraid of is palmetto bugs, aka flying cockroaches. I cannot tell you how much I hate those things. Spiders and snakes don't bother me, but if I see a palmetto or a similar beetle, you'll find me jumping up on the furniture and screaming at the top of my lungs for someone to kill it for me.

Now I have the heebie jeebies. I've never seen a palmetto bug, but now I definitely don't want to. I think I'd rather encounter spiders. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

My secret fear is the unknown while swimming in a lake. At the cabin lake, we have found massive snapping turtles, I'm talking as big as or bigger than a garbage can lid. Big northerns with their sharp teeth, stinging bullheads, and god only knows what else in swimming around down there. I always have these weird thoughts while swimming that one is gonna take my leg off or pull me to the bottom. Of course, I'd never tell my kids this. I'd
either just be putting more ideas into their heads, or they would think I'm a total whackjob!!

Hm ... I can't say what I am secretly afraid of ... then it wouldn't be a secret, but I can set it up for you ...

This fear would come about if my legs were cramped, my body was squished and there were no air vents.

Yes. A mundane fear - probably a leftover from the time of cave dwellings ... but there it is. :)

Thanks!

I don't like thunderstorms. I haven't since I was a child. I use to run and hide when one came. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com

I'm terrified of spiders, but that's no secret. Hmmm...clowns and dolls. I try to make like it's no big deal, but if my daughter comes to sleep in my room, she's not allowed to bring her doll(s) with her.

i am a total scaredy-cat. i am almost afraid of everything - to variying degrees. i don't like bugs and everthing that crawls. but i am really just cautious about every animal - even small dogs or cats - a small dog once tried to bite me and well after that i never went near animals unless i am really sure that nothing will happen XD

It's not very secret but I haaaate (and kinda fear) clowns. I never saw It but I had a sitter, a family friend, that filled her daughter's room with clowns. Hobo clowns are the WORST! When I'd have to sleep over 'cause mom worked the graveyard shift it was torture trying to sleep with all those creepy faces leering at me in the dark.

I can see where someone might find dolls scary, especially the porcelain ones, but I adore those Monster High ones!

(Please exclude me from the giveaway 'cause I read the book already.)

Deby--I'm not a fan of rats either. I'm so thankful we don't have a problem with them here.

Mnjcarter--Yikes! I don't like bodies of water where I can't see the bottom, but the thought of snapping turtles getting me would keep me firmly on land.

Ammy--great set up. I'm freaked out at the idea. :)

Tore--I have a friend with the same fear.

Seleste--I don't blame you! I swear, their eyes follow your every move. *shudder*

Rhianna--You poor thing! That would have be tough. I haven't seen the Monster High dolls, but I keep hearing about them. :)

Thanks to everyone for stopping by! Best of luck with the contest and have a rockin' Halloween! :)

Oooo, I love spiders. They are such cool creatures. But I get that plenty of people don't! My one and only fear is dying too young. Morbid but true!

I've always been afraid of "groups" or "clusters" of holes, like a hornet or wasps nest. It makes my skin crawl. I just recently found out it is a real phobia called trypophobia. It's kind of cool finally being able to put a name to my weird fear.

I'm ok with a lot of things other people find creepy as long as they stay out of my person space, but if say a spider was to get on me, I would be jumping around & screaming get it off me.
