Guest blog and Giveaway with Rachel Carrington

My Vampires—My Heroes
Rachel Carrington

A reader asked me on a blog what I did to make my vampires different as there are so many vampire romances out today. It was an excellent question and one that really had me thinking. In the end, I told her that it wasn’t a matter of making the vampires different; it was a matter of making the heroes inside them different.

Readers of vampire romance have come to expect a certain mythology, and some don’t appreciate the authors who change the rules of the game, so to speak. There are, of course, exceptions. Stephanie Meyer created a vampire world that was vastly different from any other, and she gained quite an extraordinary fan base, myself included. But for the most part, vampire romance aficionados want the vampires who can be killed by stakes, sunlight, and fire.

When I write vampires, I don’t change much of the lore. They all stay away from crosses, bay windows, and the beach. It’s the man inside the vampire that I change. How they deal with who they are, how they interact with humans while wanting to drink from their jugular, and most of all, how they fall in love.

In every book I write, I try to create a different hero; it’s a little more challenging when I’m writing a vampire as their exterior is similar to the last vampire I created. So I come up with unique ways for them to satisfy their thirst for blood or to have it removed. Or I throw in other conflicts and challenges that don’t just revolve around what they are like a curse from a witch, a lover who begins killing his kind, or a human who goes looking for a vampire because she needs a specific guide in the mountains of Romania.

To me, it’s most important to write about the man that still exists within the exterior of the vampire. That’s what makes him still capable of love and passion and someone who can look forward to eternity instead of dreading it.

Vampires Destined Series

Three vampires. Separate destinies. All desiring a woman to love them for who they are not what they are.

Book One

Forgotten in the mountains of Romania. Forced to live a life he didn’t choose. Suffering the daily pain of loneliness. Spending an eternity without the touch of a woman’s hand.

Though damned as a vampire, Rhad Valentine has been given what some might call the gift of psychic sight. He sees it as a constant reminder of real life going on without him—a life he cannot live.

Mischa Bonovich is on a desperate mission to find her missing sister, Rianna. Led to the mountains of her homeland by the faint call of Rianna’s voice, Mischa needs Rhad’s gift and his strength.

Wild hunger, both foreign and welcome, drives Rhad to his knees. He’d never held a woman so soft. Kissed one so responsive. And in spite of his inner protests, he’ll do anything to help her. Anything to feel just one more touch of her hand.

In the dark forests of Romania, Rhad’s desire won’t be quenched until he tastes what only Mischa can offer, but first, he must save her from a man who has nothing to lose. A man who holds a deadly secret that could tear Mischa from Rhad’s arms before love can happen.

I love what you say about the vampires and how they are different. I enjoy reading about different vampires but there are some things that define a vampire. I would love the first book in the series if I should win. I do not have any of themas yet.
