And when she stands in his celestial presence, her heart is utterly, completely lost…
One of my favorite characters in all of my books is the mighty but
tortured Raziel, the author of the magical book that everybody wants in LADY
LAZARUS. His motives may be murky as
seen through Magda’s eyes, but Raziel never does things halfway and despite all
the dangers and his essential mystery, she knows he will never leave her. They
go from Budapest, to Paris, to Amsterdam, to Poland and by the third book,
REBEL ANGELS, to the eastern wilds of the Caucasus.
As Magda's world explodes, Raziel is the one she can lean on, the one
who is strong enough to sacrifice everything to save her. Here’s a quick list
of just a few of the reasons to love Raziel as much as I do! No
spoilers…promise…
1. This man with the celestial
sword and the gigantic golden wings is righteous. Unlike me, he doesn’t second guess his role
in the world and knows his place in the universe. Until he meets that infuriating witch, Magda
Lazarus, face to face, and…
2. Wingspan. There are angel wings, and then there are the
blocky man-wings of Raziel. Except when
he gives them up to…eerrrr….
3. He looks great in a suit. Raziel knows how to dress, though he doesn’t
know how to button a shirt. Ahem…moving
on…
4. He is hard-core tough, even
in situations where he has to leave his angel advantages behind. Werewolves turn into gray goo on
contact. Wizards back away when he
arrives on the scene. Except he seems to
know the most ancient demon of the Reich a little *too* well…
5. He stands by Magda. Despite all of the above and much more, he
never doubts the fact he is meant to watch over her. Except when he realizes their feelings for
each other could doom them both…dun dun dun…
No spoilers here -- win a set of the whole trilogy to get the whole
story… J But I can promise
that by the end of this epic tale, you know where Raziel and Magda stand. Both
of them defy death in the name of love, and you might be quite surprised where
these two star-crossed creatures end up!
I think of the LADY LAZARUS historical fantasy trilogy as World War II fought with angels and demons. The series is set on the eve of World War II, and tells the story of Magda Lazarus, a witch with the power to call souls from the dead.
In order to avert her sister’s visions, Magda must battle SS werewolves, wizards, and demons, including the one who has possessed a willing Adolf Hitler. Together with her guardian angel, Raziel, Magda fights the ultimate evil to the death, and beyond...
