Hello Fang-Tastic book lovers! I’d like to thank Roxanne for
letting me commandeer this blog post.
As writers and readers, inspiration is a
big deal for us.
Music is one of my main inspirations. Not usually in the form
of a full song, but oftentimes a specific melody or lyric that evokes an
emotional response. An endless number of songs do this for me for different
themes throughout A Bloodline’s Echo. Although, for some themes, I haven’t
found the perfect melodic sentiment.
The good news is I have met enough to make
the forthcoming playlist. I’ve even picked out a lyric of choice for each track.
Here it goes!
A Bloodline’s Echo Playlist:
1.) Silence – Marshmello ft Khalid
“Love only left me alone/But I’m at one with the silence/I found peace in your violence”
2.) Let the Flames Begin – Paramore
“Somewhere weakness is our strength, and I’ll die searching for it”
3.) Magic – Rudy Mancuso
“When I just can’t let go, fear starts to show”
4.) Learning to Fly – Pink Floyd
“There’s no sensation to compare with this”
5.) Fireproof – VAX
“I got too close to the fire now I’m burning up in you”
6.) Skin – LUME
“You’re with me then gone/Cycle of waiting and want”
7.) Sparks – James Bay
“If I told you about my favorite dream/Would you spit fire at me?”
8.) Burn the Pages – Sia
“You’re dark like a gray storm cloud/It’s a heavy load carrying those tears around”
9.) Let Me Touch Your Fire – A R I Z O N A
“If you only knew who I am/If you only knew my plans”
10.) If You Want Love – NF
“I’ve always tried to control things/In the end that’s what controls me”
11.) I Have Questions – Camila Cabello
“I’ve got questions haunting me”
12.) Up in Flames – Coldplay
“Tasted it too long/I only know I’m wrong”
13.) Bloodstream – Stateless
“The space between two minds and all the places they have been”
14.) In My Blood – Shawn Mendes
“It’s like the walls are caving in/I feel like giving up but I just can’t”
15.) I Will Not Bow – Breaking Benjamin
“Save your breath, it’s far from over”
16.) I Know Places – Taylor Swift
“Love’s a fragile little flame, it could burn out”
While you enjoy the music, I’ve chosen to briefly describe
FIVE characters you’ll meet in this story:
Corinth, AKA Cori
From farmer to barkeep to adventurer.
-
Looks: Long, golden brown hair, once dark
brown eyes that are now a shade of crimson. Slender frame. Wears tattered clothes
and an old cloak.
-
Fears: Becoming her mother, never knowing
her father, becoming a burden.
-
Habits/notable traits: Gets lost in
thought/noticeably wanders off. Feels the texture of an old book she carries
around for comfort. Always curious. Likes to twirl leaves around.
Rylo
-
Looks: Curly, bright red hair. Hazel eyes
that respond to his mood. Wears a cloak, most notably with the hood up. Nice
abs. In Cori’s words, he has a “constellation” of freckles.
-
Fears: Not completing his unfinished
business.
-
Habits/notable traits: Puts himself in
reckless situations. Doesn’t eat animal’s flesh. Tends to go from playful to
moody without notice. Carries around emblems of each major city just in case he
needs to pass as a trader.
Juniper
-
Looks: Silky black hair. Radiant, tawny
skin. In the real world, she’d likely be considered of Asian descent. Wears the
sporty ensemble of Fallborough’s Watchers.
-
Fears: Being in a room without light for
too long.
-
Habits/notable traits: Supremely loyal to
Fallborough and the Kamai. Is always laughing. Can usually be found somewhere
around her love/fellow Watcher Thoran. Keeps Rylo in check.
Draiden
-
Looks: A wicked kind of handsome. Dark
hair, mossy eyes, black cloak.
-
Fears: Unknown.
-
Habits/notable traits: A personality that
matches his face. Unabashed flirting. Annoys others, particularly Rylo, with a
purpose. Shrewd humor. People he travels with tend to let him make the
decisions.
Ethel
-
Looks: Age-telling wrinkles. Black
everything to match her mood: eyes, the skin around her eyes, clothes.
-
Fears: Being vulnerable.
-
Habits/notable traits: Will speak sourly
of having company, but will not only let them in, but also cooks for them.
Won’t sleep in a bed, only a chair. Prideful to a fault.
And, of course, there are many, many more characters in A
Bloodline’s Echo that are dying to meet you. 😉
~ Thanks for reading and thanks again to Fang-Tastic Books for

Book Description:
Eighteen-year-old Cori has been tucked into a corner of Verbena her entire life. With no memory of a father and an abusive mother, her escape came in the form of living and working in her town’s inn, a place that happens to be owned by her best friend. Cori was all but resigned to the uneventful and dutiful life as a barkeep.
That is, until a hooded stranger showed up—just in time to witness an incident Cori herself cannot believe—and changed everything. Now Cori must leave Sagebrush, the only place she has ever known, setting off to discover love, adventure, heartbreak, and more about herself and the world she lives in than she could have ever imagined.
Excerpt
2:
Moonlight
peeking through branches illuminates his face, allowing me to examine his
features. I thought it was odd that he kept his hood up, even inside the Oak
Hand. Aside from hardened lines drawn by worry, his face holds youth. He can’t
be much older than I am.
He looks to the
side as if considering his response, his hood falling back a bit. He has light
freckles splashed across his cheekbones, long fair eyelashes and a square,
chiseled jawbone. When his hazel eyes return to me, they flicker with
amusement.
“Am I following
you? Hmm. I don’t think so. Is the moth’s intent to follow the flame? I don’t
know that either. But I can understand why the moth is drawn in by the flame.
It’s intriguing, isn’t it? How something with the potential for such
destruction can dance around with the innocence of a child?” he asks, his eyes
lighting up and widening. “From the looks of it, you’re trying to run away from
your discovery. You can’t—you carry it with you. May I ask where you’re
headed?”
By now his hood
has fallen to his shoulders and, even in the dark, I can tell his hair is a
short, untamed crimson. This strange encounter is not what I expected from this
still nameless, shadowy figure.
Resigned, I
shake my head and sigh. “I’m looking for something I lost long ago, something
that went in this direction. Who are you?”
He doesn’t bear
an emblem, but I hadn’t pegged him for a trader anyway. He smiles and reaches
out a hand in greeting. “I’m Rylo. Corinth, right? Although the dark-haired
gentleman, perhaps your male counterpart, called you something else. What did
you lose, a pet? I’m good with animals. I can help you find it.”
I grip Rylo’s
hand. We both pause momentarily, assessing the situation. The contact generates
heat far too quickly, and I break the connection.
