Guest Blog and $25 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway with Teresa D'Amario

Hi everyone! I'm Teresa D'Amario, and first let me say thanks to Roxanne Rhoads for having me here at Fang-Tastic books. It's so cool to be a shifter among vamps, that's for sure. Just guys, keep your fangs over on the other side of that white line. I think that keeps us all safer that way. Seriously, it's great to be here, and I so love this blog!

For those who don't know, my new release has hit the virtual shelves, and Dark Succession is a big hit. The second book in my True Mates series, it takes up just a few months after SheWolf ends, and tells the story of Ryland and Nora, both characters introduced in SheWolf. But don't worry, if you haven't read SheWolf, you will NOT be lost in Dark Succession.

When I wrote SheWolf, I had no intention of telling Ryland's story. He has a seriously bad problem with first impressions, and he always comes across very rough and edgy. Okay, he is rough and edgy in real life, but it's funny how fast he worms his way into your heart anyway. While working the edits on SheWolf, it hit me, the next book in this series had to be Ryland. Some of my fans and readers wrote, insisting he be next, even though I hadn't announced I was already plotting out his story. I think it's because Ryland is the kinda bad boy you love to love. He's wild and aggressive, he's hot and he's confident. And he's strong. So check him out.

Part of my excitement with Ryland was also creating the Book trailer. Take a look at it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXO9kVbBkF0

I did my best to show you the high level of danger and tension in the book and let you get a good look at how I see Ryland.

In addition, here's the blurb, plus a little teaser to help you get the feel for Ryland's story:

Nora Hunt is the daughter of former pack leader Sean Hunt and niece to Kieran Hunt. Emotionally and physically scarred after being held captive for weeks, she's finally ready to move on with her life. But when she meets Ryland, she discovers not only a world of darkness and pain, but discovers Ryland may not be any better than those who held her captive all those weeks.

When Ryland Keegan steps in as Alpha of his dead brother's pack, he inherits a pack of savage rogue wolven, as well as a legacy of violence, lies and five women held captive within the pack's confines.

But when Ryland's pack members start dying one at a time, he must decide if Nora is the catalyst or the killer. Can he trust his True Mate? Or will he be relegated to a life of leading the dregs of Wolven society?

Excerpt:

“What do you want?” Nora was tall compared to most shewolves, at almost six feet, one inch, yet still he towered over her. He moved slowly, giving her every opportunity to run, his eyes watching her every move. Running almost seemed like a good idea. But then again, he might give chase, and she wouldn’t stand a chance. She tilted her head back to stare into his eyes. She lost her balance and was forced to step back.

“I want to know,” he leaned in, whispering, “why you were in the bar.”

“My car broke down.” His scent moved from her lungs to her blood. The mix of masculine power and leather worked like an aphrodisiac, striking with a force that nearly brought her to her knees. His heat burned against her flesh, though they were still inches apart. Nora longed to lean forward, hungry for more.

"Why did you run?" He cocked his head, curiosity shining in those glittering eyes.

She wasn't about to tell him it was because she'd caught his scent and had found it shockingly attractive, something that had never happened to her before. "I didn't want to infringe on another wolven's territory." Well, it was true. To a point.

His nostrils flared, he inched closer, his breath whispered against her ear. He rumbled low in his chest.

“I don't believe you,” he murmured. His breath played across her skin and goose bumps rose. “I think you’re like all the rest.”

She narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean?”

“You’re like all the other shewolves who come through town, looking for an alpha to fuck, in hopes he’ll offer to mate.”

His words splashed over her like cold water. He was wrong. And she would tell him so.

Just as soon as her breath returned.

His sharp fangs grazed the side of her neck, and she fought the urge to tilt her head in offering.

She shook her head. “I’m not like the others.” Small, powerless words.

His soft, taunting laugher rolled through her, her muscles turning to water.

“You want me, you know you do. You can’t hide it.” He inhaled deeply, his nostrils flaring. “So what’s it to be, little rabbit? Do I fuck you and send you on your way?”

He was teasing her, pushing her, and, while she knew what he was doing, she couldn’t stop the cold flush of anger. “I’m different from the others. I don’t want you.”

“Really?” He cocked his head and met her gaze.

Her hands drew up to his massive chest. Hard, powerful muscle lay beneath his black shirt. It was almost distracting enough to make her forget her goal. Higher and higher her palms slid.

His eyes narrowed, watching. Waiting.

“Yes, really.” She gasped the words, took in a deep breath, and continued, her voice stronger. “Unlike those mangy bitches, I have a brain, and my brain says no.” With her hands on his shoulders, she slammed her knee upward. He twisted to the side, and she just missed his groin. Nora drew her arm back and let loose, the sharp crack of her palm against his cheek so gratifying.

His eyes widened, and he stepped back, the dull red imprint of her hand evident on his face.

While on yesterday's blog at Paranormal romance, Ryland was interviewed and asked who he thinks he most resembles among actors. I hadn't really thought about that, so I thought I'd ask the readers here what they think.

So leave a comment or question, and tell me what actor you believe Ryland most resembles.

And if you do, you’ll be entered into my $25.00 gift Amazon gift card contest, winner to be selected on or around 1 May.

Also, one lucky winner will receive a copy of SheWolf, book 1 of the True Mates series today.

This looks like a great read!

I just went and picked up The Lone Wolf on Kindle--can't wait to read! I love finding authors that are new to me :)

Good morning!! Quick question, do you start with a plot or a character? I think that sometimes a character jumps out and then comes a story? Ryland sounds bad...a good kinda bad.. I'm thinkiing that Colin Farrell would be a great choice. I follow bothe Ms. D'Amario and Roxanne on twitter. I also follow Fangtastic Books...my math comes to - 26. I am looking forward to reading She Wolf.

This sounds like a great series. I think he looks like Adrian Paul. Do you ever base your characters on people you know? When your writing a scene do the characters ever tell you what's going to happen or refuse to do what you want them to?

Hi Cait,

Thanks for stopping by! You'll have to give True Mates a chance. :)

Felicia, thanks so much! Enjoy Lone Wolf!! Damon is quite "hot". :D

CFischer1504, usually the characters come to me. Actually, Ryland is one of the first shifters to drop in for a visit, but he had to wait for his book. :)

Sherry, Oooh I like Adrian Paul. Awesome idea! And no, I never base my characters on people I know. That would just be freaky. Sometimes though, I have had characters where a certain behavior may be modeled after someone I know. Such as the way he moves his hands, or things like that. And my characters clam up if I start sending them in the wrong direction. I have to step back and rethink things when that happens. They are just mean that way -no hints, no nothing. LOL

Mbreakfield, Thanks for stopping in. Gerard Butler is good too, I almost suggested him. Especially with that powerful build he had in 300. :D

Not too sure who your hero looks like, to be honest. Very good book video.

Hi Sapphire, thanks for dropping in. :) Who would you WANT him to look like?

HI Christa, that's a tough question, because it's all pretty exciting to me. The first meet with the characters, plus, believe it or not, I like editing, because that's when the story really comes to life for me, and becomes more than something stuck in my head. :)

I haven't read this series but it looks fabulous! I think Ryland would look like Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jeanette,

My favorite place to read is in my living room. we have this awesome loveseat which is really like 2 easy chairs put together. But right now my lamp is broken, so I'm reading in my bedroom.

As for cover art, yes, I do think it does an excellent job of showing Nora as she is at the beginning of the book and Ryland as well. Super job. :D The same can be said for SheWolf, which to date is my favorite cover. I feel I've been very lucky with my covers.

MDobson - so great to see you here. :) What would I do if I had a day to myself? I would do three things: Sleep. Read. Play with the dogs.

Yep, i love a little extra sleep now and then. :)

OMG, I love this and can't wait to read it. I think Ryland could be played best by Ryan Reynolds. That guy is REALLY built and handsome.
Where do you find is the best place to write and how do you cut from your manuscript? It must be very difficult to decide what to delete. Do your editors have a large impact on the decision?

Thanks for the contest. I LOVE werewolf, shifter, vampire and other books like this. I cant wait to read it!

My question is: What kind of books do you like to read? Romance? Horror? Mystery? Do you just like paranormal or do you also read "normal people" books too?

I'm a follower of this blog.

Teresa D'Amario said...

Marsha, hey lady, thank you so much. :)

hey Victoria, you'll have to tell me what you think of the books after you read them. :) As for where I write, I vary the location. It works best for me to do that, frees my brain or something. I write in my computer room, my bedroom and my living room. On rare occasions I go to coffee shops. :) As for cutting, so far I haven't had to cut much from my MS's, but yes, the editors have alot of say in that. I have to be able to either support the scene very well, or cut if they say cut. :)

KMichelle,

Well, I read predominately paranormal romance, but right now I'm reading an urban fantasy without an ounce of romance. :D Mostly I like paranormal romance, science fiction and fantasy, and romantic suspense (which I guess is normal people books. LOL) I'm not as big on contemporary romance, mostly because I like an edge of danger in my fiction.

Sue,

Hm, a book I'd recommend, well, the last book I read was Cats Cradle, by Bianca D'Arc. It was really good. And right now I'm enjoying Master of None by Sonya Batemen. An interesting read so far, but got my eyes dilated yesterday and couldn't finish it. LOL.

Teresa D'Amario said...

Hi Heather, great to see you here! You'll have to let me know what you think of the books. I can tell ya, I do see his body alot like Gerard Butler, but I don't see him quite as soft spoken. And no accent, of course. :D Well, okay, maybe a little southern drawl, since he's in North Carolina

Who is Ryland?! I guess I need to read the books *blushes*! I have one I do! I know being an "in print" snob limits me. Someday my eReader will come :)

So my question: Are most of your books in print or very few?

Hey Robin, yes you DO Have a copy of SheWolf. LOL. Right now I have one book in print, but at the end of this month it will be no longer available, so you best get your copy now. Both Tigress by the Tail and Lone Wolf - the rights are coming back to me, and I'm going to be working up "Other" publishing with them. Check out my blog at http://teresadamario.com and see the full deal. :)

Van Pham, Thanks for stopping in! Actually, I don't believe in writer's block. I have found that sometimes a scene will kick my butt (usually the sex scenes) so I continue on and write the next few scenes then come back. That keeps me from getting completely "stuck".

Throughthehaze, thanks for stopping in and playing along. :) Yep, Gerard Butler works. He's very very hot. :D

This sounds great. I like that it's the heroine who is suspected of killing, usually it's the reverse. So happy she let him have it in that excerpt!

Question for you: Who are your favorite authors who write in this genre?

I'm picturing Ryland as Eric Dane-aka McSteamy-from Grey's Anatomy.

Tracey, you got in just in time - I was running behind and just now getting to the entries to add them all up. :)

You asked:
What is your opinion on book trailers?
I love making book trailers. My one pet peeve is when I see people with a really intense book, but their trailers are slow and boring. I imagine these as things you'd see on the big screen like a movie trailer, so I try to make mine accordingly. It's hard to "speed up" a trailer, since most of us use still imagery, but it can be done with either the backup music, or manipulation of the images. I still need to work on mine, but they are getting there. :)

Do you think they help in book sales?

Not really. As much fun as I have making them, I don't see where they help much at all in sales. So when someone asks if they need one, I respond with "Do you want to put the time in? then yes, If not, don't worry about it."

I don't know of any book I purchased because of the trailer, nor do I know of anyone else who has. I'm sure there are some, just not sure if it's worth the overall time.

Luckily, I just love making them. :D
