Quick Interview with Vicki Lewis Thompson

Today I have a quick Q & A with Vicki Lewis Thompson author of The Hex Series based in Big Knob, Indiana.

Her newest book is Casual Hex, the third book in the Hex series. You can read my review of Casual Hex at Night Owl Romance as well as a review of the second book in the Hex series, Wild and Hexy.

Welcome Vicki, thank you for joining us for a little Q & A here at Fang-tastic Books. It's always wonderful to get the chance to learn more about an author and the books she writes.

Let's get started.

Your Hex series is fun and quirky, how did the idea for a match making witch and wizard pop into your head? And the characters...an ADD dragon- he is so funny, and I love the poker playing raccoons, where did those guys come from?

I'm not sure where the witch and wizard came from, but I'm so glad they showed up, because they're an important connecting link for the series. As for George, my daughter helped me find him. I was halfway through the first book and I felt it needed something more, something . . . unusual. So I asked Audrey and she started throwing out ideas for magical creatures. When she said "dragon," I knew that was it, and I also knew he'd be goofy. I'm pretty sure the poker-playing raccoons arrived once George was in the forest.

You seem to have a special place in your heart for the underdog, the nerdy guys (and girls), why is that?

I'm an introverted writer, LOL, so of course I relate to the person over in the corner who's a little unsure of his or her next move. I find small insecurities endearing, but of course my hero and heroine always show tremendous courage when the chips are down. It's that old Clark Kent/Superman combination.

Your newest book, Casual Hex, turns the tables from the nerdy guy to the nerdy girl, why did you switch the formula?

You wouldn't believe how many emails arrived begging me to make the girl nerdy for a change, so this is my gift to all those readers who wanted a nerd-girl as a heroine. I loved giving her two gorgeous men to juggle!

Yeah, wouldn't we all love to juggle two gorgeous men. :-)

Can you tell the readers a little more about the Hex series and your newest book, Casual Hex?

You bet! The Hex series is set in the imaginary small town of Big Knob, Indiana, where a matchmaking witch and wizard were banished for magical misdeeds. Their assignment is to rehabilitate the rambunctious dragon living in the nearby forest, but George doesn't take all their time, so they dabble in matchmaking on the side. Each book deals with a different couple, plus George's continued struggle to earn his golden scales and become a true guardian of the forest.

In Casual Hex, a wallflower finds herself pursued by two gorgeous guys, a sexy Frenchman from Paris, and a magical prince from the Kingdom of Atwood. The matchmaking witch and wizard referee, trying to make sure that true love wins out, while also wrangling George the dragon and his habit of playing poker with the raccoons.

Are you planning more books in the Hex series? If so when will they be available?

To shake things up a bit, I created a two-book spin-off from the Hex series. Blonde with a Wand comes out in February, 2010, and Chick with a Charm comes out in March, 2010. Two sisters, both witches and both living in Chicago, search for true love. The first sister makes the mistake of turning her current boyfriend into a black cat, which creates obvious complications, and the second sister gives a love potion to a man she admires, only to discover that wasn't her best idea ever. The matchmaking witch and wizard from the Hex series figure into both stories because they're able to make trips to Chicago from their home in Big Knob, Indiana.

What are you currently working on right now?

A complete departure! In the midst of all the stories about magic, Harlequin approached me to write a series of books for Blaze, all connected by a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. So beginning in 2010, sexy cowboys will be part of the mix. Although the stories won't be paranormal, I am planning to include a spot sacred to the Native Americans on the ranch property, and that spot will have a healing influence on my characters.

I know writing must keep you very busy, but what do you like to do in your spare time, if you have any :-) ?

I'm trying desperately to develop hobbies so I don't write all the time, LOL. I just got back into yoga, and I fool around with Tarot, although I'm certainly no expert reader! I'm constantly dreaming up new decorating schemes for my house. I'm starting to grow herbs, but I have a black thumb so I'm not sure how that will work out. I also love working jigsaw puzzles. And of course, reading, always reading.

Again, Thanks so much for the Q and A. I know you are very busy we appreciate that you take the time to connect with the readers. We all look forward to your next book.

Great! Thanks so much. Wonderful questions. :-)

Warm wishes,
Vicki

Hi VLT, I loved your Nerd books but haven't read Casual Hex yet.

Herbs are wonderful when you can pick them right from the pot or garden and use them that same day you've picked them. Yummy. Good luck in this.

Hi Vicki!

Ooo...I can't wait to read your new books planned for 2010. They sound awesome! You know me, I love all your older books and can't wait to read your BLAZE books!

Your HEX books are great! I have not read the last one yet, CASUAL HEX. That sounds really funny since the heroine is a Nerd! What a great twist!

It sure was nice to have you as a guest here! Happy 4th of July in advance!
