A Paranormal Christmas for Everyone with Kerri Nelson

This holiday season I have two Christmas stories coming out in Whispers Publishing’s Christmas Around the World series. This is a collection of stories that feature hot and spicy Christmas stories set in other countries around the world.

When choosing my settings, I picked one place that I’ve been to (Japan) and one place that I’d like to visit (Scotland). Somehow, both of my stories ended up being paranormal romances. I’m not sure how that happened except to say that I believe that magic and Christmas go hand in hand.

So, why do paranormal books get us so hot and bothered these days? If you look at the number of available books in this genre it is absolutely astounding. They are hands down the most successful books on the market these days.

Is it about the fantasy element? Is it the idea that something really exists out there besides the traditional normal life? Is it the fact that these male creatures are bad, rad, and immortal? Or is it just that we all need an escape and a good adventure from time to time?

For me, it is about the sheer thrill of thinking about what the world would be like if these creatures really did exist in our world. It might be a nightmare or it might make things more interesting. That’s the thing that keeps me coming back to the paranormal as both a reader and a writer.

Interestingly, out of all the paranormal books that I’ve written so far only one of them is not erotic in nature. I find that a fascinating thought because not only do I see the idea of paranormal creatures as an exciting and thrilling adventure story but I also see them as inherently sexual beings. They are indeed the subjects of many sexual fantasies.

I’m sure that everyone has their own reasons for loving the genre and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it today.

Why do you read paranormal books?

Do you prefer them to be more action/adventure or more hot and sexy?

Blurb for The Mystical Kilt

Brenna Sweetwater inherits a vintage clothing store from her great aunt in Scotland. Having survived a recent series of bad luck experiences, she hopes that this new business venture will be just the change of luck that she's been searching for.

When she tries on an old Scottish kilt that she finds hidden away in the back of the store, she unwittingly opens a portal to ancient Scotland. After falling through the portal, she awakens to find herself in the chambers of one sexy, naked Scot!

What happens when a twenty first century shop girl is transported to the sixteenth century Highlands on Christmas Eve? Will her holiday season be ruined? Or will this be the Christmas blessing that she's been dreaming of?

Sometimes in order to find true love, you have to travel outside the realm of your own imagination…

Now here's a special Christmas Treat offered by Kerri Nelson, she has offered to give one lucky reader the chance to choose any ebook, from any author, through any publisher up to a $5 value-
and get it for free.

That means if you've been eying an ebook and would really love to have it, now's your chance.
Ms. Nelson will get it for you.

To enter leave a comment with contact info. One winner will be randomly chosen.

I love paranormal stories that are hot and sexy. It also helps when there's a strong element of mystery and adventure tossed in so that the plot line is strong. I don't want to read a book simply for its heat content but rather for the overall delivery of the story.

Happy Holidays

Does it really have to be one or the other? I like paranormals to be action/adventure hot and sexy. I read paranormals for the:
1. escapism
2. super-human powers
3. heroes in black leather
4. 800 yr. old vampire heroes still smokin' hot
5. strong heroines
6. shapeshifters
7. demons
8. witches, sorcerers
9. pirate ghosts, yes really!
10.did I mention the vampires? it's worth a second mention I think. (LOL)

Thanks Kerri for sharing & Roxanne for inviting Kerri.

Good morning Anna!

Great to see you as always! Hope you'll enjoy the Mystical Kilt...it was my first foray into time travel, Scottish romance, and the 16th century. A tall order!

Happy Friday!

Hey Witchy~~

Nope. You are right...it can be all of the above! This one was a particular challenge because of the historical research and writing the accent challenges. I hope I've done it some justice.

Great to meet you here and hope to see you "around"!

I love paranormal stories that have it all: action and adventure that are hot and sexy! It's the endless possibilities of what might exist. Each day, scientists reveal more about space and think discovery of another earth-like planet is only a matter of time. There's so much we don't know and whose to say there isn't time warps or parallel planes of existence with fantastical beings - it's the possibilities that make it so fascinating.

Kerri,
Boy if that doesn't just put together three of my favorite things, just like in the song: time travel, and a naked paranormal Scot. I think I'll "gift" myself this read for Christmas.

Good morning Kerri!

I like paranormal because I like to think that there is more out there than we are aware of. Plus, the thrill of reading a scary paranormal is knowing that you are, in fact, safe. Probably the same reason I like to read romances, in general. I like to believe it exists! Just joking . . . kind of. In that case, romance may be fantasy as well. Okay enough of the jaded outlook. Though I do think we like to read about bad boys because we can fantasize, while secure with our good guy.

Wishing you the best, Kerri. I'm leaving today for a week, so won't be able to follow your next blogs.
Have a Merry Christmas,
Julie

I read paranormal for their otherworldly elements. I like that it's out of the ordinary. And I like a combo of sexy and action. I think the more action you have the hotter the sex can be. The characters are more in jeopardy and therefore grasp on to the romantic moments even more.

Hi Kerri:
I like paranormals that are spicy and fun as long as they can draw me into the paranormal elements. Some authors just don't seem to suspend my disbelief, but you do. Best of luck with sales!

I love paranormal books that are both hot and sexy and with some suspense. I like a book that is fast paced and makes you either love or hate the people in it. I just think that shifters are so hot I guess it's because the animal is so close to the surface and most shifters are alphas.
