The Ideal Vampire with Jae Lynne Davies & Giveaway

We all know the realm of the fanged has evolved over the years. Vampires are no longer just the feared creatures of the night. In fact, some of us are always looking for them. But they now come in all different flavors…the tortured, the furry, those who are born, those who are made, the good, the bad, and the downright scary. With all of the traits and magnified abilities, there’s something for everyone.

Examples: Twilight Vampire, Edward Cullen has telepathic abilities, Larissa Ione’s Wraith is half vampire/half demon with mind manipulation abilities, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Acheron is part demon, part god, who feeds off the blood of a goddess, and has immeasurable power. I sometimes compare the vampire varieties to ice cream flavors…you’d love to sample everything offered. You can see why.

How do you like your vampire? Do you prefer super powers, a heartbeat, maybe those who possess DNA from another paranormal species? Personally, I enjoy vampires of ALL types. But there’s something about that vampire bad boy with redeemable qualities that keeps me coming back for more. I certainly wouldn’t kick my heart throb vampire out of bed for possessing an ability of some sort.

In my novel, MYTHIC, I’ve thrown a bit of cross-breeding into the mix. As though being a vampire didn’t come with a unique set of complications, my heroine, Gianna Marino is also half human. Does this make her a stronger paranormal creature, or will humanity prove to be her weakness? You be the judge.

Blurb:

Centuries after the death of her family, human/vampire hybrid, Gianna Marino is determined to shed the blood of the vampire responsible.

Disguising herself as a human wanting to be turned, she infiltrates the enemy’s coven with the hope of bending him to her will and destroying him from the inside.

But when a handsome stranger enters the scene and is lured into their seductive game that results in a heated love triangle, she discovers a secret that blurs the lines between good and evil, forever changing the course of her existence, and destiny will soon determine on which side she’ll stand.

Excerpt:

Nicholas Sutton's mystery woman led him down a long hallway where the walls were painted a rich burgundy red. After a few turns, they arrived at what he assumed were his temporary living quarters. As if she sensed his persistent tension, she faced him. "Don't worry. There are no dungeons or torture chambers. They are merely sleeping quarters in a place where you won't be disturbed. I would hate to have the comfort of my guest interrupted. With that addressed, the room contains most of the things you'll need and I trust your accommodations will be comfortable." She turned, with the intent to leave.

"Do I at least get to know your name?"

She paused and hesitated before she faced him with her answer. "Gianna. Gianna Marino. Oh and Nicholas? Do try your very best not to make a mess of things."

At the moment, too many questions ran through his mind for him to retort.

How does she know my name? Does she know what I am?

Does she know that I have the potential to kill her at any time, without warning?

While he wanted to demand answers, dawn was near and he was famished. If he didn't feed before he slept, he'd awaken weak and ravenous.

Gianna led him to a beautifully decorated room that would provide both comfort and privacy. Nicholas surveyed the space that rivaled a guest suite at New York City's Plaza Hotel. The wall décor held neutral, earthy tones and the tapestries were of rich antiquity, which led him to believe they were chosen with care.

Curious, he walked into the bathroom. It contained both a shower and a bathtub of generous size, enough to fit at least five or six adults. Nicholas turned and walked out. His eyes drifted to the king- sized bed where he'd soon take his rest and he was exhausted. How he wanted to fall onto it and regain his strength with a long day's sleep.

Gianna approached the bed, bending ever so slightly over the top of the mattress to smooth out the sheets. It beckoned him further. As her hand ran over the glossy comforter, the lighting in the room revealed the sheen of the oils in her skin. Soft, warm, healthy skin. His mouth watered at the sight of her.

Still leaning, possibly stretched to her capacity, she closed the distance between her breasts and the bed linens. Her tight black pants cupped curves so fine, he wanted a bite. In fact, a bite wouldn't be enough. He wanted to take his time and nibble on her all day, giving but a sample of his talent, while showing her that a bed so large should never go to waste.

Nicholas's libido took control of his mind as he considered pinning Gianna to the bed to have his way with her until they were both breathless and sweaty, or until she begged him to stop, whichever came first. He didn't doubt her ability to satisfy his appetite for both blood and body.

He gazed at her in naked hunger and imagined how amazing she'd look completely bare to him, how her voice sounded while moaning in his ear and the feel of her scoring his back with her nails, on the brink of a fierce orgasm. Licking his lips, he nearly panted over the momentary fantasy. Oh those wicked thoughts.

Hey Jae Lynne, this story rocks!! Very good read through and through, loved all of your characters. Like you, i'm not kicking ANYbody out of my bed for having a little something extra :)

I would love to be bitten, during sex would be great I don't want a vamp with a complex, bite away. Ok seriously, I would be cool with the any of the extra traits MY vamp would have.
Congrats Jae Lynne, this book is awesome, can't wait for what's next :)

I love how vampires are written these days. Sometimes I surprised with a new trait but most of the time I love anything written. I can't think of any special traits that I would give a vampire though.

The traits I like in my vamps are that bad boy quality and a bit of mystery. I'd like to see him in a lot of leather and not be scared of biting during romantic moments. He is a vamp after all and biting is a major part of his existence. And knowing he's concerned about losing control with me but doing it anyway is kinda sexy.

My ideal vampire would be sexy, alpha male, caring, and good. I don't want an evil vampire! I want a reformed vampire, but he must also be fierce and protective.

My ideal vampire is definitely an alpha male.. and one with a sense of humor. I like the types of vamps that will growl or lick their fangs to tease you, or scare you a little, then smile or smirk so you know it's just a joke.

... Though they're totally allowed to bite me if they want.

Thanks!

Hi Sherry,

Thanks so much for stopping by. Some of us love vampires just the way they are...fanged and sexy.

Hey Danielle,

I hope you enjoy the read, once you have the opportunity. Fierce vampires? Who doesn't love those? *shudders*

Unknown said...

I agree with you sxyldy! I love the vampires that take what they want and make no apologies. Oh, I wouldn't mind a little frisky biting, myself.

Unknown said...

Hi Joder,

A vampire bad boy, dressed in leather, with good potential to lose control...very risky...VERY sexy.

Unknown said...

Hey Amy,

There's nothing wrong with a caring, good vampire. Just because they're fanged, doesn't mean then need to be evil. A reformed vampire? Sounds like a bad boy with redeemable qualities. Not bad. Not bad AT ALL.

Amanda,

This comment had me laughing.

I completely agree with the teasing. The fang licking and predatory growls from low in the throat...so sexy.

LMAO...They're ALLOWED to bite. But NOT encouraged, right?

Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the contest!

First, I actually don't think of Acheron as a vampire. To me he is his own thing. I like my vampires to have some of the classic issues like blood drinking, only come out at night, immortal. The sparkling in Twilight was a major no-no. Ugh! I want the vampire to be in control. There are so many great vampires out there right now. I was anti-vamp for a while because of overkill but I am into again!

Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. I love how vampires are wrote about today. There are no special traits. I love them to be hot sexy strong and powerful and i like them bite. Tore923@aol.com

Hi Meggerfly,

I agree vamps MUST be sexy. And I'm all for encouraging the biting. After all, it's a natural reflex. LOL

Unknown said...

Hey Chrisbails,

I'm so glad you find MYTHIC intriguing! Good luck in the contest.

I think it goes without saying that the ideal male vamp would possess a dominant/"take charge" trait. I'd have him NO other way!

Thanks for commenting!

Hi Jen B!

While I agree that Acheron is in a class of his own, he does possess a few vamp qualities...though they weren't acquired in the trational way we're used to seeing. Still wouldn't kick him out of bed for sucking on me for nourishment, that's for sure!

I'm not all for the new "bling" vampire that sparkles in sunlight, but I have to admit, it was an original idea. Kudos for that!

I can see why you might've had an aversion to vampires. They've flooded the market. Probably because we can't get enough of them. Glad to see you've come around and decided to give them another try.

Thanks so much for commenting!

Hi Tore,

Thanks for stopping by. I think it's safe to say we all love the qualities you've suggested and it wouldn't hurt if they had something "extra". LOL

Good luck in the contest!

I like ALL kinds too. Sometimes I'll read some more of the gory type but I'm more into the sexy and arrogant type. I just like to change it up from time to time. I will always pick the sexy, seductive over the gory though. I liked a vampire named Spade from Jeanienne Frost's book Kiss of Crimson. He had all the traits that were yummy. Your book sounds great. I don't see how being half human would be good but I'll have to read it to find out =) A love triangle ;) hmmm...count me in please.
