Review of This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Five Fangs for This Side of the Grave

Book Description:

The highly anticipated continuation of Jeaniene Frost's New York Times and USA Today bestselling Night Huntress series, in which Cat and Bones face an enemy unlike any they've met before.

Danger waits on both sides of the grave.

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance...

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"--the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war. ...to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

My Review:

Cat and Bones smolder on the page. I think they are the best book couple ever. Most books end once the couple gets together or the spark dies and sizzle lessens. Not with Cat and Bones. I'm pretty sure they just keep getting hotter.

There's never a dull moment in their lives- always some supernatural is out to get them, someone close to them, or usually out for Cat. This time the leader of the ghouls wants Cat's head on a platter to serve his own agenda to cause war between the vamps and ghouls.

Cat and Bones have to go to New Orleans to seek help from voodoo queen Marie Leveau. She doesn't say much or give them anything they can use only forcing Cat into something she didn't want. They don't know Marie gave them something valuable- at least not right away. But how can they use it to their advantage? Can they use it to stop the war?

This is probably the best Cat and Bones book so far. There is lots of action, some extreme emotion that pulled some tears from me, and a super sizzling sex scene between Cat and Bones. Oh and some wonderfully placed humor that will make you laugh. I love the scene where a ghost appears and Bones learns it's the ghost that poltergeisted Cat's panties a few books back. In the middle of a serious speech Bones is mouthing silently to the ghost- Me. You. Exorcist. I absolutely loved that part.

I also loved the scene with Cat and Vlad in the graveyard then the slight humor that insues once they get back tot he house. It leaves Cat blushing, well it would have if she had still been capable of blushing.

Vlad is a complicated character and I can't wait to read his book. I love the twists and turns Frost always throws in, things you never see coming. And I love how she keeps everything fresh- with the characters, the story...

I am going to really hate it when this series ends. But there's a few books left.

Book six, One Grave at a Time will be out at the end of August. Yes August that means 2 books in this series in one year. How fabulous is that?
