In Australia we don’t really celebrate Halloween (I know! Crazy, huh?) so I don’t have any Halloween memories or anecdotes to share.Though after a trip to the shops this morning, looks like Halloween is growing in popularity by the minute. Almost every shop had decorations and candies to purchase…the first time I’ve ever seen so many pumpkins and witches and spiders and fun creepy stuff.
On Halloween, we get the occasional kid knocking on our door. Last year we had 1, the year before 2. Going by the proliferation of decorations in the shops, I reckon we’ll have a few more this year.

I don't know whether I should be sad that you don't have Halloween or jealous! As a kid I loved Halloween, but as an adult I have to admit it's not my favorite day. Thanks for the giveaway!

I didn't grow up with Halloween either, Nicola, so when I first came to the States, I totally decorated and dressed up. Now I just cringe when the doorbell rings because that's eating into my writing time.
That's a great title for a book. Makes me want to read it even though I don't know exactly what it's about. I'm glad to hear that all of you poor Halloween deprived Aussies are finally getting into the spirit of it. It really is a fun holiday.

Nicola, last year we had 3 trick or treaters and they were all in the same family! I love Halloween and wish we had more kids come around but it is what it is! I still decorate the house, though!

What a great book title, Nicola! Sounds like a fun read. My husband is British, and he didn't really grow up with Halloween either, but in the last ten years or so, it has become more popular in the UK. I guess it's growing in popularity internationally. Last year, here in Florida, we had about 40 kids come to our door (!), a record in our neighborhood, so I'm hoping we have bought enough candy this year. I'd hate to disappoint any kiddies.
Nicola, I would guess that if the Halloween mania has hit Aussie stores the hoards of candy demanding ghosts, goblins, etc will soon be knocking on your door. Handing out candy to Trick or Treaters lots its thrill for me about 5 years ago, when kids from other towns started being carted into my little town & swelled the numbers of T&T's from 30-40 to several hundred. Not only has it gotten down right expensive to feed them, but most of the out-of-towners are disruptive & the chauffers who bring them in, sit in the van/bus & let them run wild. Takes some of the joy out of the holiday.

Think we have exactly the same situation over here in South Africa.
Halloween is becoming better known and the commercial interests are pushing it more every year.
Sure it will soon be a polular in both our countries as it is in North America.

I think the trick or treaters have really been dwindling down around our area. There still are quite a few kids, but more and more people are doing kid Halloween parties or taking their children to places that have Halloween events, like the Mall Of America, the zoo or the haunted amusement parks. Halloween was so different when I was little, you could take your run of the neighborhoods by yourselves. Now there are so many sickos out there, you wouldn't dare to let your kids go alone!!

In my area it's more about having a party instead of going door to door. That all started for safety reasons, but I prefer it.
The stores were decorated when it was still summer. That is something I am still not use to. That is just too early.

OMG, we live about an hour from both DisneyWorld and Universal... and do they ever celebrate Halloween... The celebrations start over a month before the actual date. I love Halloween...
