Character Interview with Grayson Kinkaide
By: Sondra Jacobs
This interview is for a newspaper article about Kinkaide
& Associates. It takes place about
two months after Grayson and Samantha meet.
I had the pleasure of sitting with Mr. Grayson Kinkaide to
discuss his business, his children and a little bit about his personal
life. First of all, I would like to
start by saying, Mr. Kinkaide leaves quite an impression. He is handsome, intelligent and I saw a
little bit of a sense of humor. He’s
also, quite a catch, though; this reporter believes he has been caught. Here are a few excerpts of my interview with
Gray.
1.
Please tell me a little bit about yourself.
a.
Okay. To
begin, I am the father of three children.
Jackson, Sarah and Ethan. I am
the grandfather of two grandchildren, Lily and Lincoln, whose mother is my
daughter Sarah.
I am an architect and founder of
Kinkaide & Associates, formerly Kinkaide Architects and Engineering.
2.
What type of buildings does Kinkaide &
Associates design?
a.
We design any type of building you can
imagine. My architects are the best in
the business and together, we have designed bank buildings, sky scrapers, small
shopping malls, larger industrial type buildings as well as hospitals, clinics
and restaurants.
3.
I understand your children work with you. Can you tell me what they do for you and how
that works out?
a.
Yes, I am very fortunate to have all three of my
children, as well as my brother working with me at the firm. My son Jax is a demolition expert and served
in the Army in that capacity. Now that
he is home, he heads up the demolition arm of Kinkaide & Associates.
b.
My daughter Sarah is our accountant. She went to college here in Green Bay at UWGB
and has her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
She does a tremendous job for us.
c.
My son Ethan is also an architect. He served in the Army as well and now designs
buildings with me and the rest of the architects.
d.
My brother Jamie, heads up the engineering
division of Kinkaide & Associates.
4.
So you haven’t mentioned anything about a
wife. Are you married Mr. Kinkaide?
a.
I am not married however, I am seeing a
beautiful woman at the time, who is very, very special to me. I foresee a long and bright future with her.
5.
Well, that sounds intriguing. How did you meet this beautiful woman?
a.
I met her at my attorney’s office. She manages his office.
6.
People will be dying to know, was it love at
first sight?
a.
I doubt people reading an article about an
architectural firm will be dying to know about my personal life. But, since I am feeling rather generous
today, let me just say, yes, for me it was love at first sight.
7.
Okay, point taken. Tell me what you have planned for the future
of Kinkaide & Associates.
a.
We are in the process of finishing up a large
project in the Oshkosh area. This has
taken several of us several months to design.
It’s a large manufacturing project for a company that has recently been
awarding military contracts. They are
expanding in a big way and Kinkaide & Associates was fortunate enough to
win the bid to design the new facility.
After this project is finished, we have several buildings in various
stages of design and build. It never
stops for us, which is good.
On the demolition side of things, we are incredibly busy. My son Jax is growing at an astounding rate
right now and he is becoming well known around the country. I can see that part of our business really
taking off.
8.
That’s all wonderful news. Great for the local economy too. What do you do when you are not designing or
blowing up buildings?
a.
I have a
love of gardening and so does my girlfriend.
We also have a large project we are working on together on the fourth
floor of my building at Kinkaide & Associates. We have been spending a good deal of time
working up there. We also motorcycle a
bit. Mostly, we spend time with each
other and our families.
9.
Thank you very much for your time Mr. Kinkaide,
I appreciate how busy you are. One last
question and I’ll let you get back to work.
Are their wedding bells in your future?
a.
With a wink and a smile, Mr. Kinkaide answered,
“Ms. Jacobs, you’ll know when everyone else knows.”

Grayson Kinkaide has waited his whole life, all 55 years of it, looking for his soul mate, the other half of himself. He suffered through an awful marriage with a manipulative selfish woman that almost brought him to his knees. The only things that kept him strong were his children and his growing business.
When Gray meets Sam both of their lives are changed drastically. Sam’s dream of a drama-free life is jerked from her grasp as Gray’s exes do everything in their power to tear them apart. Gray finds himself having to fight, hard, to convince Sam they are meant to be together.

About the Author:
I was born in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri named Bridgeton. During my time in Missouri, I explored the Ozarks, swam in the Mississippi River, played kickball and endless games of hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. Spending summers in Kentucky with my Grandmother, Ruth, are the fondest childhood memories for me.
At the age of thirteen, my family moved to Wisconsin to learn to farm. Yes, learn to farm! That was interesting. Taking city kids and throwing them on a farm with twenty-eight cows purchased from the Humane Society because they had been abused, was interesting. I learned to milk cows, the ins and outs of a breeding schedule, feeding schedule and the never ending haying in the summer and trying to stay warm in the winter. Our first winter in Wisconsin, we had thirty-six inches of snow in one storm and were snowed in our house for three days! Needless to say, I wasn’t loving Wisconsin.
I am now married with four children and two grandchildren and a new one on the way this summer. I have learned to love Wisconsin, though I still hate snow. Wisconsin and the United States are beautiful and my husband and I travel around by motorcycle seeing new sites and meeting new people. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are interested in where we are going and what we have seen along the way. At every gas station, restaurant and hotel, we have people come up to us and ask us about what we are doing and offering advice on which roads in the area are better than others and great rides others have been on if we are interested.
I come from a family of veterans. My grandfathers, father, brother and two of my sons and one daughter-in-law are all veterans. Needless to say, I am proud. Proud to be an American and proud of the service my amazing family has given.
