What
inspired your story?
BEYOND YOUR TOUCH is the second novel in
the Dark Heart series. It was inspired by the mystery that is at the heart of A
HOLD ON ME (Dark Heart book 1) --and also by my desire to not make falling in
love easy for Annie and Chase. It’s hard
to say a lot more without giving spoilers for book 1.
Is
the setting to your story important?
Yes. It’s set in the imaginary town of Port St.
Claire, Maine which is near the real town of Bar Harbor. In this book, an
artifact that’s on display at Bar Harbor’s Abbe Museums is vital to the story.
Did
you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
Since I was young, I wanted to be a novelist. But I have
also always had a strong interest in plants and nature in general, and in
antiques and junk. In college I majored in Plant and Soil Science, but took
creative writing as well. I ended up pursuing a career as a florist and antique
dealer. Eventually, I started taking writing classes online to expand my skills
with the intent of becoming a published author.
When
did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
Probably in the third grade. Seriously, being a
writer has nothing to do with being published or for that matter with what you
write. Someone who is inspired to create poetry that they never share with
anyone has just as much of a right to call themselves a writer as a journalist
for a local paper or a NY Times bestselling author.
How
long did it take to get your first book published?
From the time I started taking writing class online
with the intention of becoming published, it took several years before I sold my
first novelette. I queried about five or six novels before I signed with an
agent. Once my agent starting submitting A HOLD ON ME to editors, it took
thirteen months before it sold to Kensington Books and all the contracts were
signed. After that, it was around a year and a half before the novel was
released.
What
was the first book you ever published?
I’ve had a number of short fiction pieces and

The first novel I had published was A
HOLD ON ME (Dark Heart series book 1). BEYOND YOUR TOUCH (Dark Heart series
book 2) will be my second novel-length publication, followed by REACH FOR YOU
when it’s released next year.
What
was the craziest thing you’ve ever done when it came to a storyline in your
book?
I’m not going into too much detail because I don’t
want to spoil the story. But there is a scene in BEYOND YOUR TOUCH involving
breaking into a Mustang. I couldn’t find
the information I needed online because there are a lot of difference between
models and years of Mustangs. At any rate, I went to the dealership and asked
if they’d tell me how to break into the latest model Mustang, and some other
rather strange questions. We ended up doing a sort of reenactment in the middle
of the showroom.
