Guest Blog and Kindle Fire Giveaway with Deborah Blake- Dangerously Divine

For those of you not familiar with my Broken Rider series, it is a spin-off from my popular Baba Yaga series from Berkley. The Baba Yagas are powerful witches out of Russian fairy tales, and their modern incarnations travel around in their magical homes accompanied by dragons disguised as (very large) dogs or a cat. The Riders were introduced in the three novels and three novellas of that series as the long-time companions and helpers to the Baba Yagas. It was my first editor at Berkley that had the idea to give them their own books. To be honest, I wasn’t sure anyone would be that interested in the Riders, but man, was I wrong! (Sometimes it is good to be wrong.)

You see, something awful happened to my poor Riders at the end of the third Baba Yaga book, Wickedly Powerful. So the Broken Rider books are the stories of how each man—more-than-human half-brothers Mikhail Day, Gregori Sun, and Alexei Knight—found his way out of the destruction of his old life and onto a new path. The first book, Dangerously Charming, featured Mikhail, and my new one, Dangerously Divine, centers around Gregori.

This was a little challenging, because of the three brothers, Gregori is by far the subtlest character. It was easier to write about gorgeous and charming Mikhail, and Alexei is rowdy and larger-than-life, so his book is going to be filled with humor and fighting. I was worried that it would be difficult to write about a hero who is generally quiet, serene, and thoughtful. (Although goodness knows, that’s my type of guy. Especially when he is dark-haired, Asian, and as good-looking as Gregori is. I do love a smart man.)

But it turned out that there was a lot going on under the surface of my supposedly calm and quiet protagonist, and it was so much fun to watch him try to cope with his mysterious and dangerous new abilities. Of course, I also really loved writing his secretly kick-ass librarian love interest, Ciera. You won’t believe what she is getting up to when no one is watching!

I hope you’ll follow the Riders on their journeys. And for Baba Yaga fans, don’t worry: at least one Baba shows up in each of the Rider’s books. I couldn’t keep them out once they’d made up their minds to help out, could I?

About the Book:

The author of the “wonderful” (T
amora Pierce) Baba Yaga novels and Dangerously Charming is back with a magically mesmerizing new tale about the dashing and daring Broken Riders...

The Riders: Three immortal brothers who kept the Baba Yagas safe, now stripped of their summons to protect. But fate is not finished with them—and their new callings are even more powerful...

Though his physical wounds have healed, Gregori Sun, the eldest of the Riders, remains in spiritual turmoil. His search for his mother, the one person able to heal his soul and save his life, is failing—until he crosses paths with a beautiful and fascinating librarian who might be the key to his salvation...

Ciera Evans’s bookish ways are just a guise. The product of a difficult past, she has dedicated her life to saving lost teens—by any means necessary. She works alone, but when a dark, brooding stranger proposes they team up to solve both their problems, she is tempted—in more ways than one...

After Ciera and Sun’s plans are derailed by dangerous enemies, they find themselves entangled in an ungodly affair—one that will force them to either find new strength together or be forever haunted by their pasts alone.
