The final book in the Devil's Isle series is page turner. I devoured it quickly even though I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters.
I was immediately engrossed in this series from the first page of The Veil and have devoured each and every book not wanting to put them down until the last word was read.
Neill has a way with words and worlds. Her world building draws you right in and her characters keep you coming back for more.
In the Devil's Isle series she created a fascinating post-apocalyptic New Orleans, a place familiar to most of us, but foreign at the same time with the way a supernatural war has changed it.
The Beyond takes us deeper into this world as a new threat wants to destroy New Orleans for good, to eradicate it of humanity in an act of vengeance. The Fae have powers stronger than any others that have come through The Veil. It's going to take a weapon designed by paranormals to take down this new threat. Claire, Liam, and their team must travel into The Beyond to find what they need to save New Orleans. Claire has to accept who she is, the power she has, and those in her life who are important to her.
The journey into The Beyond takes them to Elysium, a strange place, a perfect place where imperfections are hidden and punished. Claire's crew has to meet with the Consularis and try to convince them to give up the piece of the weapon they have. Of course they want no part in Earth's troubles. So they have to improvise, which takes the fight back through the veil to New Orleans.
Claire's character growth throughout the series was wonderful and her relationship with Liam was one I have been rooting for the entire time.
I wish this wasn't the last book but things were left in a way that wrapped everything up.
