Black Cats Rule Guest Post & BLONDE WITH A WAND Giveaway with Vicki Lewis Thompson

TGIF and TGTBID! (Thank God The Book Is Done). I’m delighted to be hanging out with the Fang-tastic bloggers today, and I’m ready to party because I made my May 3rd deadline! Woot! I’ve just finished writing two books about sexy werewolves, but they won’t come out until 2011, so you may not want to talk about those yet.

We could talk about black cats, though. A friend of mine just rescued a little kitten lying in a puddle of rain beside the road. Another few hours and that kitten would have been dead. My friend put him in her car (gender was figured out later) and took him home to a heating pad and some kitten replacement milk.

At first the little guy couldn’t even hold up his head, but within hours he’d begun to show signs he’d make it. Soon he was prancing around and hissing at the dogs. My friend couldn’t keep him – too many pets already – but she found a woman who is thrilled to have him, so I’m happy to report he’s safe in a new home.

My friend thinks the kitten was thrown out of a car window and that his only crime was being born black. Someone was superstitious and thought that a black cat was a really bad thing. So out the car window he went, and only lived because my friend found him in time.

What I have to say to the person who would throw an innocent kitten out of a window is unprintable, but I’m doubly outraged if the reason involved the cat’s color. I love black cats. I live with a black cat named Eve, and she’s my buddy and my muse. She was the inspiration for the magical cat Sabrina in my Hex series.

I love black cats so much that when Anica, my heroine in BLONDE WITH A WAND turned her boyfriend Jasper into a cat, he became a sleek black cat. He looked, in my mind’s eye, like a miniature panther. Black cats are so elegant.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a cat lover who appreciates other colors, too. I’m in a July anthology called CUPID CATS with Katie MacAlister and Connie Brockway, and the cat in my story is silver-gray with black swirls. He’s a magical matchmaking cat, as are all the cats in that collection.

But I can’t help favoring the black kitties. I know they are often the last to be adopted out of a shelter. Eve came from the Humane Society, and I can’t imagine anyone giving her up, but someone did, and now she’s the light of my life.

I’ve also heard that black dogs don’t get adopted as often, either. Do you have a kitty or a doggie in your life? What are your favorite colors, or does it matter to you?

Let’s talk! Anyone commenting gets a shot at winning an autographed copy of BLONDE WITH A WAND, by the way.

Did I mention I’m ready to party?

Review of Blonde with a Wand by Vicki Lewis Thompson

.5

Book Description:

From the Wild & Hexy imagination of a New York Times bestselling author ...

Sexy witch Anica Revere has one rule: never under any circumstances get involved with a man before telling him she's a witch. Still, what's one silly rule? Especially when the guy in question is as cute as Jasper Danes. But when Anica and Jasper have a spat, she breaks an ever bigger rule of witchcraft and turns him into a cat. Bad news for him. Worse for her...

VLT knows how to combine funny and sexy.

I loved her Hex series that featured the magic matchmaking duo of Ambrose and Dorcas who helped unlikely couples who were destined for each other finally get together with the help of a little spell casting. Dorcas and Ambrose are back in this new series showing up with small but pivotal roles.

In Blonde with A Wand the perfectionist, good girl witch, Anica finally does something wrong- and boy does she screw up big once she finally screws up. The mess she's gotten herself into just keeps getting worse.

Anica's boyfriend Jasper gets her so upset she uses an ancient spell and turns him into a cat. Too bad she didn't know everything about the spell because said spell is bad news for both her and Jasper. He might end up spending the rest of his life as a cat but he's not the only one that has undergone major changes. Thanks to the spell Anica now has to live her life totally different. She never knew how dangerous her magic could be or how much she depended on it to get through everyday life.

Will Anica and Jasper learn to trust and forgive each other? Will Jasper ever be a real man again, a man that doesn't turn furry purr?

You won't know for sure until the very end Thompson will keep you guessing and wondering what's going on almost until the very last page- which is fabulous because who likes predictable. This sometimes hilarious, sometimes sexy and entirely loveable book will keep you turning pages wondering what it's going to take for Anica and Jasper to make everything right again.

If you want a lighthearted series that doesn't take itself too seriously and that isn't chock full of violence and death then check out VLT's new Babes on Brooms series (and if you ahven't read them yet be sure to check out her Hex series too). You will not be disappointed.

Be sure to drop by tomorrow, May 7th, for a guest blog by Vicki and your chance to win an autographed copy of Blonde with a Wand
