Especially when sparks between him and Heather ignite irresistible desire.

But who's the arsonist? Why target Heather? What's his shocking motive? When Heather faces off with him in a brutal attack, she needs her "white knight" as much as he needs her. Both have looked into their souls and risked their broken hearts for each other. Now Kevin will have to risk his life and his heart.

Prologue
He looked down at Heather Sampson as he pulled the matchbox from his pocket. The box dropped from his hand, spilling matches on her bedroom floor in a heap of deadly promise. Crouching down, he scooped them back into the container, careful to move quietly, afraid that at any second she would awaken and find him standing over her.
Her eyes were closed and her lips slightly parted, as if she waited for a kiss from her Prince Charming. She should have known better. There was no such thing as Prince Charming. There were only toads and a precious few men like him—men who worked to make everything just.
The sad truth was that there was no justice in marriage—at least not in any of the marriages he had witnessed. No. Marriage was one lie after another. One hurt feeling masked with a fake smile, only to have another lie strip it away. It was an endless cycle of pain.
What was the point? What was it all for?
As far as he could tell, it was for nothing more than ego and some idealistic hope that if they acted happy, if they faked it well enough, maybe they could finally believe it themselves.
He was here to make her a martyr, not that she would understand, but this was his chance to show her and the world what her marriage truly was—nothing more than smoke and ashes. A fire that had yet to burn itself out. But at last the time had come. The hour was here for him to stoke the flames and let them consume every crumb of her failing marriage.
The inferno could have it all.
He walked out of her bedroom and made his way downstairs, where the glorious scent of gasoline filled the space. Unlike the others, Heather’s house would go up in a flash. In one giant fireball the whole charade would be over—the secrets, the lies, the fake smiles and hurt feelings. It would all be gone, and all her pain could be for a higher purpose.
The night air blew into the house, diluting the gas’s perfume. He made sure to leave the door open as he stepped out and walked toward the garage. A puddle of gas sat on the sidewalk, just waiting for him.
He struck the match.
It was so much easier this way.
The fire’s smoke curled skyward, creating a trail that led to the heavens. If he had his way, life would be better and she would be free.

Guest Blog and Giveaway Savannah Sacrifice by Danica Winters

Secrets of Savannah Sacrifice
Post Two

All right… It’s post #2 in the blog tour!!!

For those of you who haven’t followed: The time has come to celebrate the release of the fourth novel in the award-winning Nymph Series, Savannah Sacrifice!  As part of the celebration, I have decided to do something a little different on this blog tour. On each guest blog stop (where a guest blog is requested), I will be giving readers a song and a secret about the book!

Trust me, this book carries many, many secrets. Some of the secrets are fun, some are deliciously wicked, but guaranteed you will love them all! So, grab a seat, remember to follow (and put in for the giveaways) and get ready to learn more about Savannah Sacrifice!
In addition to a secret, I’m also going to be sharing a song that played a part in the creation or acted as a theme when writing the novel.

Please feel free to leave me a comment. And if you’ve read the book and it has made you think of a song (or something equally amazing), leave me a comment! I will be stopping by each stop, and I will post each participating entry on my Facebook/Twitter page!

(You can learn other secrets about Savannah Sacrifice by checking out earlier guest posts!)

So have fun!

Today’s Secret:

The Bonaventure Cemetery, a major setting in Savannah Sacrifice, is reported to be one of the most haunted places in the entire country. While researching the book, I came across a few pictures of one of their reported ‘ghosts.’ My favorite, a ghostly dog, made an appearance in the book at the side of with my other favorite ghost*, Gracie Watson!
*Side note to this secret: I believe in ghosts! Do you?

Today’s Song:

Today’s song is a bit darker than the last post, but it was a key song when I started looking for characters to build and weave into the story. I loved the line: “Only one sure way to bring the giant down…”

From there it was easy to write a story about enlisting ghosts in bringing down an enemy!

Here’s a lighter one! I hope it makes you tap your foot! :-)

I am looking forward to seeing you at the next stop!

Thank you for all the love and support,
Danica Winters

Following Your Dreams Guest Blog with Danica Winters

Following Your Dreams

I come from a conservative background, where being different was something frowned upon and ridiculed.  In my schools, I wasn’t unpopular, but I stuck out.  I was a bit of a tom-boy, the product of two older and somewhat-mischievous brothers.  To be honest, I liked to be just a tad bit off normal—though my inner-voice always pushed me to ‘fit-in’.

When I moved out of my childhood home at eighteen, I left some of my tom-boy ways behind and met the world and college head-on.  I quickly learned that I had accomplished my goal to be ‘normal’ and now instead of blending in, I stuck out against the dread-headed, unshaven, and often pink-haired comrades that meandered around my college’s campus.  I secretly envied their ability to walk with their heads held high as the non-college attendees stared and whispered.  How could they break from the normal and not get tired of the strange looks and judgments made by outsiders?

My parents pressured me to get a ‘real’ degree, and in hindsight I would have been better off following their advice.  Instead, I followed my heart and studied Anthropology with an emphasis in Archeology.  It could have been the pink-haired culture that surrounded me, but I desperately wanted to understand what made people tick throughout history—why some chose to conform while others broke away from the ‘norm.’

In the final years of getting my degree, I did something I had vowed I would never do, I fell in love, and was given a ring by the man of my dreams.  He treated me better than I had ever been treated and loved the fact that I could one day wear cowboy boots and the next a cocktail dress.  He helped me understand that normal isn’t really normal, there is something in each of us that makes us a little bit different—and he embraced (and still embraces) my differences.

With his constant support, I graduated college, but found myself at an impasse—stay with him, but give up traveling around the world in the name of Archeology, or move to the Southwest, get my Graduate degree and hope that someday I could find a job.

I chose him, and I know I made the right choice.  It has brought me a different future from that which I had envisioned at eighteen, but it also brought me what my heart truly desired—family, stability, a sense of normalcy, love, fulfillment, and it also brought me an unexpected path—writing paranormal romance.

Writing has brought me everything I had wanted when I had gone to school, adventure, travel, and I get to think about what makes people do and say the things they do.  It’s a study of interpersonal communications, history, culture, economics—it’s everything and anything that I wish to incorporate into my work.  One day I can be a paraplegic, dealing with the pitfalls of living in a wheelchair and the next, I’m a Veela in search of revenge.

Most importantly I have followed my heart.  I’ve come to embrace and be proud of the fact that I’m anything but normal.  I’m me.
