Best Valentine’s Day Gifts for Him

Here’s some great gift ideas for your guy this Valentine’s Day.

1. I’ll Drink to That - Is your guy a Scotch whiskey aficionado? Get him a bottle of his favorite single malt. If you know he wants to learn more Scotch but hasn’t had the opportunity to experiment, how about several small size bottles in a variety of styles from light to rich, and smoky to delicate. He’s not a Scotch drinker? How about his favorite wine, or craft beer?

2. Sweets for the sweet – Give him the really good stuff this Valentine’s Day. Bake him his favorite treat or buy the goodies at a bakery. If you decide to go with boxed chocolates, go for the good stuff and get the best quality you can afford. Because he’s sure to offer you a piece or two!

3. Techy Stuff – A couple of years ago I got my husband the Google Chromecast TV stick because he loves techy things. The nice thing about the Chromecast and the Amazon Fire Stick is that they’re not terribly expensive; the Fire Stick sells for about $39 US. It’s easy to use (just plug into a USB port on your TV) and it gives you access to a ton of shows, songs, games, and more. Great opportunity to snuggle up and binge watch your favorite show. Or if he’s into gaming, AskMen.com suggests Far Cry 4, one of last year’s most acclaimed console games.

4. Clothes Make the Man – When it comes to clothes, there’s something for every budget, from cashmere sweaters and silk ties, to inexpensive novelty Valentine socks. For style-conscious guys, how about hooking him up with his own personal stylist? Starting at $100 US, Trunk Club will match him with a stylist who will choose several items of clothing for him from name brand stores and ship it right to his door. He has ten days to try things on and decide if he wants to keep them, and if he needs to send something back, shipping is free.

5. A Little Bling-Bling – Jewelry always make a nice gift. Watches are a fashion essential, and come in many styles and price points. Other blingy ideas include personalized money clips or key chains, earring studs, chains, or cuff links. There’s no shortage of ideas!

You know your guy better than anyone and what suits his personality best. For more gift ideas in a range of prices, check out Gift.com’s ideas for Valentine’s gifts for men. Surprise him this year with something he really likes!

What are you buying your guy for Valentine’s Day this year? Do you and your sweetie celebrate with gifts?

Excerpt 2:

“Dylan wasn’t just my brother, he was my best friend, and in some ways, he was like a father. When our mother died, he petitioned the court to make him my legal guardian so I wouldn’t have to go into care. He made sure I studied, pushed me to apply to med school, helped me with expenses.”
“He sounds like a wonderful big brother.”
His lips curved in a sad smile and Renata’s heart ached for him. “He was, and I know he’s going to be an amazing father. I want this animosity between us to end. I want my brother back.” His voice cracked. “But I’m not sure he feels the same way. I said some ugly things…”
“Perhaps, with the baby coming, he wants to mend the rift between you as much as you do.” She hoped she was right.
“Maybe. I’ll find out tomorrow. I’m going to phone Dylan and try to arrange a meeting.”
“It’ll work out. You’ll see.”
He leaned toward her, the corners of his eyes wrinkling with his smile. “I appreciate the pep rally.”
“Well, I was a cheerleader in high school. Rah, Rah.”
He laughed softly, then cupped her face with his hand, his thumb idly stroking her cheek. Her breath hitched at his tender touch. “Thank you for making this easier for me, Renata.”

He leaned in and her heart pounded in anticipation of his kiss. When his lips touched hers, a firestorm of longing ignited inside her. She strained toward him, needing his kiss, needing to heal his pain. His lips parted against hers, and she opened her mouth eagerly, reveling in his taste as his tongue danced with hers. The world faded away, and nothing existed for her except this man and all the tenderness she felt for him. It felt so right to kiss him, so perfectly, completely right.

When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. Just for fun, she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense “Seeing Things” was a 2008 EPPIE finalist.

In her life away from writing, Jana is an accountant/admin assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts, travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her husband live in Western Canada with their Pug/Terrier cross Lou and several unnamed goldfish.

Excerpt:
“What did the x-ray find?” she asked.
“A spiral fracture of the right arm.” He paused for a moment and took a deep breath as if trying to control his emotions. “I’ve seen this kind of injury before. A fracture like this can be the result of a fall, but it can also be an indication of child abuse. An arm as small as Ava’s will break like a twig if it’s twisted hard enough. I’m obligated to contact the authorities if I suspect abuse.”
Julia stared at him in mute shock, her brain struggling to process his words, as if trying to translate some unintelligible language. The words child abuse rang in her ears. Finally she found her voice.
“You think someone deliberately hurt her?”
“Her injuries are consistent with abuse.”
“I don’t give a damn what they’re consistent with. Ava has not been mistreated. My mother said she fell down the stairs, and if that’s what she said, then that’s what happened.”
“I believe there’s more to the story than a simple fall.”
“If it comes down to believing you or believing my mother, I’m going with my mother.”
“Perhaps you don’t know your mother as well as you think you do.”
Julia sucked in a breath and stared into Dr. Campbell’s dark, accusing eyes. The idea that her mother would hurt Ava was ridiculous. She adored Ava, would do anything for her…
She blinked and looked away, remembering an incident the other day. She’d heard her yelling at Ava about the milk she’d spilled on the kitchen floor, making such a huge deal of it that Ava had cried. It had struck her as strange, since she couldn’t remember her mother yelling at anyone, ever. She wasn’t as patient as she used to be. And how did she explain her strange phone call telling her Ava had been hurt? Of course she’d been upset, but her mother had been nearly incoherent with distress. Was something going on she wasn’t aware of? She was seventy-one now. Maybe looking after a rambunctious five-year-old was too much for her.
No. She shook her head to reject the disloyal thought. Dr. Campbell was the one who was wrong.
“I know my mother. She didn’t do this. It was an accident.”
“We’ll soon find out. Sharon is questioning Ava now.”
Julia stared at the door. “She’ll be scared, all by herself.”
“Sharon’s very good at what she does. She has a way of making kids feel comfortable.”
Julia turned on him, the anger and despair she’d been holding inside spilling out. “And you? Do you enjoy upsetting five-year-olds and turning families’ lives upside down? Does it make you feel powerful to sic the authorities on us?”
“Look, Mrs. Stewart, I take no pleasure in bringing in the authorities. But I’ve seen child abuse, up close and personal, and I can tell you it’s damn ugly. The things parents and caregivers are capable of doing to defenseless children…”
He stopped abruptly, his chest heaving. Closing his eyes, he averted his face and took a deep breath. When he turned back to her, his steely control was back in place. “So yeah, if I have even the smallest suspicion that a child has been abused, I’m going to ask questions. And I’m not going to apologize for it.”
