A Review of Love Bites by Adrienne Barbeau

.5
4.5 Fangs for Love Bites

Author Adrienne Barbeau has taken her knowledge of Hollywood from her years of acting and used it to create a wild read where paparazzi are werewolves, agents are monsters and actors and actresses are ageless vampyres.

Hmmm...not much of a fictional stretch is it? LOL.

Book description from Amazon:

With her customary wit and dead-on satire, Barbeau skewers Hollywood and vamp lit alike, casting the paparazzi as werewolves and certain Hollywood “monsters” as the genuine article

Ovsanna Moore is a Hollywood siren, horror film legend, and cut throat producer. She also happens to be a 450-year-old vampyre.

In the follow-up to the much acclaimed Vampyres of Hollywood, Adrienne Barbeau paints a wonderfully sly portrait of cinematic vampyres, as well as the nature of celebrity, and the entertainment industry.

Her “Scream Queen” credentials make her the only author who could combine such a fastpaced, edgy plot with tongue-in-cheek references to the inner workings and vanity of Hollywood. A whirlwind of action, Love Bites is a clever take on vampyres readers will never forget.

If you love vampires and you love reading about Holywood, old movies and old time actors then the combination of all those in this book will surely charm you.

Ovsanna isn't a sparkly Twilight vamp and there are no teenagers running around in this book. In fact the story takes center stage over the romance making this book more of a horror novel than a paranormal romance.

I liked the charm and wit of the characters.

Detective Peter King is just my type of guy- macho, sexy, and half Italian (just like my hubby). Too bad his macho cop part makes him think that even though Ovsanna is a centuries old vampyre she still needs a cop with a gun to keep her safe.

Cute huh? Ovsanna thinks so. So did I.

Ovsanna is a kick ass and ask questions later kind of vampyre who knows how to take care of herself, good thing too since she's always getting into trouble. But that's what happens when you are the head of the Vampyres of Hollywood others always seem to be out for your head.

I found her amusing when she speaks about vampyres not loving or caring like humans yet she seems quite attached to Peter and willing to risk everything to be with him and keep him safe. Perhaps she just never met the right person before that actually made her feel such longings and emotions. Of course she hasn't realized that yet even if the reader sees it coming.

No the vampyre is still in denial.

Love Bites was a fang-tastic read I couldn't put down until the very last page was finished. Now I have to go back and read the first book in the series Vampyres of Hollywood which I never read because I mistakenly thought it would be a fluffy bunny vampire read.

After reading Love Bites, with it's nod to true horror novels (and movies), I realized there's nothing fluffy about this series and I can't wait to read more.

Love Bites takes old world vampire myths and legends and meshes them into a new style vampire that will leave you wanting more.
