I have two new ebook reviews for you from my new ebook reviewer, Chris.
Sadly these stories were not very enjoyable and she rates them both with less than a fang, perhaps a broken fang.
Terrible and I feel the pain of the authors, but bad reviews can push us to be better writers.
Hunter by Stephanie Cottrell Bryant 2009 - Paper Bag Press~9300 words ($3.99)ebook, erotica, werewolf, vampire
Moonkissed by Wayne Mansfield 2009 - Paper Bag Press~7100 words ($3.49)ebook, erotica, vampire, gay
Paper Bag Press is a relatively new ebook erotica publisher and both "Hunter" and "Moonkissed" are among its recent offerings. Both stories are classified as "One Nighters" or "Not so short ebooks" (versus "Single Handed" short ebooks and "Weekenders" longer ebooks).
In "Hunter", vampire Haley infiltrates a werewolf pack using magic to pose as one of them. She's there to steal some of the Alpha's blood, but his son complicates things.
In "Moonkissed", 18-year old Jacob is beaten up by the town bullies, then rescued by a handsome male vampire couple.
The goals of erotica might be a bit different than that of other types of fiction (ahem), but if the writing is painful enough to jolt me out of the story over and over and over... it isn't working.
Both "Hunter" and "Moonkissed" suffered from awkward, cliched writing and desperately needed good editing and major rewrites.
~Chris is a voracious reader of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. She can be found on LibraryThing (egret17) and blogging at http://www.stumblingoverchaos.com/.
