Blood drinking sorceresses, werewolves, magicians (mages), dragons and daemons abound in this complex series created by Kendra Leigh Castle.

Perhaps I found everything and everyone hard to keep track of at first because I haven't read the other two books in the series, this is the third. I couldn't keep track of who was who or what they were at first, I kept having to go back to the cheat sheet at the beginning that explained what different creatures were and how they were all connected. Once I got into the story everyone started getting straight in my mind though.

I love everything Scotland and the Highlands. Ever since Highlander (the TV show not the movies) I have been a Scottish obsessed woman, but this wasn't what I was expecting.

Castle's Scotland isn't exactly what one accustomed to reading historical or even paranormal romances set in Scotland is used to. Castle's world is a little different.

Kendra Leigh castle has built a complex and captivating world of creatures that are different, powerful, and in Bastian's case, lonely.

Bastian an Morgaine is the only male ever born to the Dyadd Morgaine and the last of his kind on his father's side. He carries with him a curse, a daemon shadow connected to his life that he can not get rid of, making him never able to get close to or love anyone.

Catriona MacInnes has come to visit her relatives in the Highlands of Scotland where she meets Bastain. Her werewolf instincts have her drawn to the man who she knows is more than he appears.

It's a wild ride as Cat fights to be with Bastain and he tries to keep her away to save them both but he can't resist what he feels for her. Will the attraction destroy them both or will the love they share be the way to destroy the daemon curse within him?

Castle has done a wonderful job of blending fantasy and paranormal elements and creating complex intricatley woven worlds of magic, love and deception. the characters are strong and the story line solid and full of twists and turns. Fabulous.

This book is a keeper. Now I just have to get the first two in the trilogy.
