A Review of The Bite Before Christmas
Five Fangs for The Bite Before Christmas by Heidi Betts
Book Description:
“All I Vant For Christmas”
Connor loves trimming the Christmas tree, baking gingerbread cookies, and hanging the mistletoe. But his vampire siblings won’t help. His friend Angelina sends party planner Jillian to the rescue. But when Jillian, who’s mortal, discovers she’s decking the halls for a family of vampires, will she run—or will Connor have a beautiful woman to share the holidays with?
“A Vampire in Her Stocking”
When Vivian learns that her secret crush Sean is terminally ill, she’s heartbroken. Confiding in Angelina, Vivian refuses to turn Sean into a vampire. Deciding to play Santa, Angelina changes Sean and leaves him wrapped in a red bow on Vivian’s doorstep…
“It’s A Wonderful Bite”
Although Angelina is happy with her longtime lover, Ian, she’s ready for a commitment. After drinking eggnog and watching It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve for the (literally) four millionth time, Angelina falls into a dream where she is mortal, and Ian is involved with someone else. Talk about the nightmare before Christmas! But Santa must have checked his list twice, because this Christmas Angelina’s wishes are about to come true…
These three sexy stories are sure to warm up your cold nights and put you in the mood for eggnog, carols, and holiday happiness. And to make it even better- they feature vampires.
Vampire fans are going to love these light hearted, romantic stories that show even vampires celebrate the holidays...and have problems. Being a blood drinker doesn't make you immune to life's little problems... or love.
I think my favorite story was the first one- “All I Vant For Christmas”.
Connor is an alpha male vampire who knows what he wants and pushes until he gets it. Too bad his younger brother and sister are just as stubborn and thwart his every attempt at having a happy family holiday.
Then his friend Angelina sends a party/event planner his way. Jillian turns out to be exactly what Connor needs in his life...and his bed. She just needs to get over her fear of vampires and he needs to learn how to be a little less aggressive.
The second story had bittersweet moments but in the end it's a romantic holiday treat.
As Vivian struggles with the issues surrounding her former boss Sean's illness and tries to come to terms that he is dying she discovers him gift wrapped in her living room- and changed into a vampire courtesy of her friend Angelina. Sean wakes up in disbelief. He doesn't think vampires are real and surely can't be one of them. After drinking blood and being burned by the sun reality starts to sink in. Will he adjust to the fanged life or kill himself in the sun?
The third story featured Angelina herself- match maker for the fanged set she finds it difficult to believe her own love life isn't exactly what she hoped it would be.
Ian isn't exactly the romantic type- the grand gesture is completely lost on him. Angelina however, breaths romance- even if she isn't getting any. She wants Ian to tell her he loves her and ask her to marry him.
Her wishes get jumbled when she wakes up human- and so is Ian. Both are cops and things go from bad to worse when Ian runs afoul of vampires. Can Angelina save him without her own vamp powers? Or will she wake up from the dream worse than she was- without Ian.
I have never read anything by Heidi before but now I am hooked on her sassy, sexy and witty charm. The dialogue flows smoothly and the characters are complex even though the stories and short.
I loved this book and think I'll be pulling it out to re-read a few scenes in December when I will really need a boost of sexy warmth and holiday spirit.
Note- I received an ARC for review and the names of the male characters don't match up with the ones in the book description- so I don't know if the names were changed after the ARC was released or if the names in the book are right and the blurbs are wrong. I changed the names in my blurbs to match the ones in the book I have.
