Interview and Giveaway with Eliza Gayle

Welcome to Fang-tastic Books, Eliza. Let’s get started by learning more about you, what would you like to tell us about yourself?

I’m an avid reader and writer of paranormal romance with a crazy love for shapeshifters and witches. That’s not to say I don’t love other paranormal creatures as well because I do, but I think shifters and witches are my favorites. Now if we get into a discussion on fantasy then we’d be talking about faeries and dragons. J I like my romances extra spicy and I think my writing reflects that with some scorching hot scenes that fling that bedroom door wide open.

What was your first published work?

My first published work was a fantasy ménage between a witch, a faery and a dragon titled Taken by Tarot. I love my faery world and hope to revisit it again soon. Unfortunately, Taken by Tarot is currently out of print but is being revamped and will reemerge later this year bigger and better than ever.

Tell us about your current book?

Malcolm, the third in my Black Cougar series is my latest release. The series has followed the three shapeshifting Gunn brothers through family politics, love, sexual exploits, and a mating call that can’t be denied. Now it’s bad boy Malcolm’s turn. Here’s the blurb.

He can run be he can’t hide. Not from duty. Not from danger. And especially not from the woman who forces him to face the truth.

Malcolm Gunn’s time is running out along with his ability to shift. When confronted with his past he thinks he’s found a solution. With the help of a little rope, he can let nature takes its course. Unfortunately the woman who is the key to his existence harbors a powerful secret that will destroy them both.

Cheyenne’s been hired to track and retrieve Malcolm at any cost. Her only plan is to get in, get out and keep her sanity intact. In that order. But she’s been warned…If he catches her, he will stake his claim whether she is willing or not.

Deceit and lies bring them together. Murder puts them on the run. Their enemies are closing in and there’s only one, irreversible way out. Some choices can never be forgiven and one man’s anger can destroy it all…Malcolm.

Can you give us a little glimpse into the book, perhaps a part of one of your favorite scenes?

There are so many favorite scenes to choose from but it’s really hard to pick one that doesn’t involve one of the many twists I’d rather keep secret—for now.

I do however love the opening chapters and the immediate clashing these two characters go through. Here’s a brief snippet of one such scene.

“Looking for me?”

He whirled at the sultry voice behind him in time for her to deliver a kick to his stomach, catching him off balance and sending him flying backward to sprawl on the floor. Air whooshed from his lungs and his head cracked against the hard floors. Pain exploded in his head, little shards of sharp, burning sensations that took hold for several long seconds before clearing.

Stunned that she’d snuck up on him, he groped for his bearings. The little minx took full advantage of his delay and pounced on top of him, straddling his legs with her own. He didn’t even see the knife until she had it pressed to his throat and dangerously close to his jugular.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?”

Malcolm slowly dragged the air back into his lungs and wondered what kind of crazy bitch she’d turned into. The power emanating from her came soaked in strength without even a whiff of fear. For a second or two, he felt frozen in time. This woman looked nothing like the Chey he remembered. This woman had obviously trained and his instincts screamed she would not be an easy fight. Interesting.

Her white blonde hair was tied up in a braid but a few strands had come loose and curled around her face. His fingers itched to brush them from her cheeks. With the anger in her eyes and the stern shape of her mouth, she reminded him more of the women from his clan than ever. In an act of aggression, she bore resemblance to the cougar more than ever.

“My tongue’s just fine, Chey. Want to find out?”

What are you working on now?

I am currently working on a new witch book that I started a while back and hope to finish soon. It involves a witch having to turn to a warlock for some very creative lessons in controlling her new magic. Fun Fun!

What would readers be surprised to learn about you?

Most readers are pretty surprised when they find out I’m a former Marine. (although there are no former Marines really, just Marines.)

I loved my time in the Marine Corps and will forever treasure the training and memories of those years. I also met my husband in the Marines so that’s a special bond we’ve shared for twenty years now.

Just for fun lightning round:

Black or white - Black

Red or pink - Red

Angels or Demons - Demons

Vampires or werewolves - werewolves

Coke or Pepsi - definitely Coke

Coffee or tea - Sweet Tea (I’m a southern girl.)

Wine, beer or mixed drinks - mixed drinks.

Casual or Formal - Casual

Backyard barbeque or gourmet meals - Backyard Barbeque

Paperback, hardcover, or digital - digital all the way!

Where can your book be found for sale?

Guest Blog with Eliza Gayle & Lucas Giveaway

Imagine driving down a curvy and dangerous road where any minute you could make one mistake and drive off the side of a mountain. And then imagine deciding this would be the perfect setting for a series of books about cougar shifters. That’s exactly what happened to me. Sort of…

Actually it was the name for this stretch of dangerous road that lured me in. Tail of the dragon. A road that lures thousands of motorcyclists each month and claims so many as its own there is a tree at the mouth called the Tree of Life. It is adorned with helmets and other belongings from those who didn’t make it out alive.

Dramatic enough yet?

So far it’s all true and as a writer how could I not be lured. If you had a clan of shapeshifters who didn’t want to be found, what better place? That is how easy a series is born for me. A road.

Settling on a cougar took a little more time. I though about Jaguars, leopards, lions, you name it. The setting for this series is in the North Carolina mountains and I wanted to write about an animal you would actually find here. Bobcats are the most prevalent but they are so small and I just couldn’t see my big strapping heroes as overgrown house cats. When in my research I stumbled upon a Native American myth about the elusive Black Cougar here in our mountains everything clicked and I knew where I was headed.

Part of the legend says that when you come across a black cougar then death is coming for you. This really got me going as I developed three brothers, the only black cougars of their clan. Held up as guardians and expected to protect their secrets at all costs. They became the death enforcers.

Lucas, Kane and Malcolm.

Lucas’ story came out in eBook in February at Phaze Books (print sometime this month) and in it you meet all three brothers and I promise they won’t be what you expect. You can however expect three very alpha men as I have a serious thing for alpha heroes and women who keep them on their toes. There’s a lot of action, not everyone survives and it’s pretty steamy.

Kane arrives at the end of April and I can’t wait to see what readers think. For many reasons this series had been quite a challenge and a long time coming (Lucas was written in 2006 and partially rewritten in 2009) but I like to think it’s all been worth it.

Blurb for Lucas:

Kira MacDonald is in trouble. Plagued by false visions and erotic dreams of a man she’s never met, she fears losing both her psychic powers and her sanity. The cure? Finding and bonding with her mate. The stubborn red-haired warrior might not want one, but fate has other plans, plans that include her rescuing Lucas Gunn.

As the Guardian of his shape-shifting clan, Lucas Gunn lived a quiet, solitary life. Until he was kidnapped, examined, and tortured. Now imprisoned, his only tie to the outside world is the memory of his dreams and the passionate woman who appears nightly in them. He thought she was nothing more than a vision. Then she came for him.

An uneasy alliance, a mating call that won’t be denied, rituals that must be honored, and unrelenting enemies who will stop at nothing to get what they want. It all comes together in the first of Eliza Gayle’s sensational Black Cougar Series. Passion and Pride. Duty and Danger. In the end, there’s really only one choice…for Lucas.

On a completely different note but lots of fun. If you hang out at Goodreads at all, I hope you’ll stop by and friend me. I am a voracious reader who loves to see and compare books to other readers. Thanks to my friends at Goodreads I have a TBR list a mile long. http://www.goodreads.com/eliza_gayle

Take care and thanks so much for having me.

About Eliza Gayle:

Eliza Gayle lives a life full of sexy shapeshifters, blood boiling vamps and a dark desire for bondage…until she steps away from her computer and has to tend to her family.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude (which her husband translated into something very naughty) from Park University with a dual degree in Human Resource Management and Sociology. That education, a love of the metaphysical and a dirty mind comes in handy when she sits down to create new characters and worlds. The trick is getting her to sit still.

Monday Musings March 8, 2010

How was every one's weekend?

Mine was kinda lazy. I finished reading Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison (review coming soon) and watched a movie or two. Nothing exciting.

BTW, the new Fame movie totally sucked.

I did a little bit of writing but mostly worked on stuff for my daughter who just rejoined girl scouts and for my oldest son. I am busy working with him and planning the rest of his senior year- prom, open house, etc. I had to dig through albums to find baby photos of him for his yearbook which he will probably hate. That's OK he'll appreciate the gesture later in life. As a teenager he appreciates nothing. I am sure I didn't either. OK as I think about it not true, I definitely appreciated things more than he does but I was still an arrogant, selfish kid too.

I also did a lot of cooking. Nothing fancy. Normally on weekends I usually make hubby cook but he had to work.

So not much else to chat about right now. I have to go write and make up for all the writing I didn't do this weekend.

This week at Fang-tastic Books I have a couple authors scheduled for interviews and guest blogs: Tuesday is Eliza Gayle, Wednesday is an interview with Skyler White author of and Falling, Fly, Thursday is an interview and giveaway with Denise Verrico author of the vampire novel Cara Mia, and Friday I'll be giving away a copy of Angelology. Saturday Shadowfae author Erica Hayes will be dropping by for a guest blog about her newest book.

Be sure to enter all of last week's contests before tonight at midnight EST.
