The Slayer Giveaway and Tour Kick Off

Today we're kicking off the virtual book tour for The Slayer by Theresa Meyers.

This is book 2 in the Legend Chronicles her sexy steampunk series.

Ready to Get Steamed?
I'm very excited to be starting off my tour for THE SLAYER here at Fang-tastic Books! One reason it's such a perfect place is because my heroine this time is a vampire contessa. As the eldest Jackson brother, Winchester thought he'd left the life of a Hunter behind, but when the contessa shows up in Bodie and takes out a team of steam-coach robbers, he comes face to face with his past in ways he never expected. In many ways this book was fun because it flipped the idea of the hero whisking the heroine away. Instead the contessa takes Winn on her airship back to Europe to help recover the missing piece of the Book of Legend that's been stolen from the Imperial Vampire Court. Of course, this wouldn't be a Legend Chronicles story unless there was plenty of steam (both in the relationship and the mechanical marvels), plenty of other Darkin, including Russian Werewolves, and a twist or two, or five, along the way.
A lot of people have asked me, do I have to read the first book in the series before THE SLAYER? The answer is that is up to you. This is the first time I've tried writing books that happen concurrently so both the first book of the series, THE HUNTER, and this book are happening at the same time (with some fun cross-over sections between the characters).
If you've never read a steampunk romance, but enjoy historicals with spies or paranormal romances, then you'll likely have fun with this story. Steampunk is fairly new to romance, but it's been around a long while in science-fiction and fantasty genres. Basically think Victorian-era fiction with a bit of wild fantasty and fantastic inventions thrown in, all in the name of bringing about world change or the downfall of the establishment and you've about got it right. The big difference for me is the romance (and therefore the reason Cherry Adair gave me the delightful quote: "Meyers puts the steam in steampunk." If anyone would know about steam, it would be Cherry.)
So sit back, grab a cup of tea with me and enjoy this whirlwind tour (with prizes!).

Brothers Winchester, Remington and Colt know the legends—they were trained from childhood to destroy demon predators, wielding the latest steam-powered gadgetry. It’s a devil of a job. But sometimes your fate chooses you...

CHASING TROUBLE

Winn Jackson isn’t interested in hunting nightmares across the Wild West—even if it’s the family business. Unlike his rakehell brothers, Winn believes in rules. As sheriff of Bodie, California, he only shoots actual law breakers. That’s what he’s doing when he rescues the Contessa Drossenburg, Alexandra Porter, a lady with all the elegance of the Old World—grace, beauty and class. And then he sees her fangs.

Alexandra isn’t just some bloodsucking damsel in distress, though. She’s on a mission to save her people—and she’s dead certain that Winn’s family legacy is the only way. Luckily, aside from grace and class, she also has a stubborn streak a mile wide. So like it or not, Winn is going to come back with her to the mountains of Transylvania, and while he’s at it, change his opinions about vampires, demon-hunting, and who exactly deserves shooting. And if she has her way, he’s going to do his darnedest to save the world

Crazy Titles Sometimes Make the Best Stories: Guest blog and Giveaway with Theresa Meyers

Writers are creative people. Ok, reality check, writers are sometimes silly, imaginative people. Case in point, sometimes I come up with titles before I even know what a story is going to be. Sometimes it’ll be a piece of a jingle on the radio or a line out of a song. Sometimes it’s from a snippet of dialog I overheard, or I begin riffing off favorite movies for titles (which resulted in several James Bond style titles in my written or soon to be written file including The Vampire With the Gold Fang, Being Vampire is Not Enough and The Vampire Who Loved Me.)
One day the Harlequin authors for Nocturne were having a discussion on our writer’s loop. We were talking about the line, how it differs from other lines in Harlequin and someone brought up titles. This naturally led us into a contest among one another to see who could create the goofiest titles. Things like the Billionaire Cowboy Vampire’s Secret Virgin Mistress (that’s where the silly came in). But what happened from that silly exercise was a spark of imagination. The title The Half-Breed Vampire stuck. I didn’t know what the story was going to be exactly. I just knew he was going to obviously be half vampire and half something else.
And this is where the imagination kicks in…
From the title I started brainstorming. Who was this half-breed? What was he? How’d he get this way? Where there more of them, why or why not? Was it something he could change? Something he was proud of or ashamed of? Why? (see, we’re a bit crazy too, asking all these questions about totally fictional characters as if we’re prepping to interview a celebrity on TMZ or something.)
Anyway, what eventually happened is I started looking at secondary characters from the security team in The Vampire Who Loved Me. Which one of them had the most to lose? Which one was the most explosive? The demolitions expert of course!
I knew his name was Slade Donovan, but the moment I started writing the book I found out he had another name: Blackwolf. Now let me be perfectly honest and tell you we might joke about the amensiatic character, but writing one is hard work! All the things I normally did to find out who my character was, his traits, his likes and dislikes, his past didn’t work because he didn’t even know them! This was the first book where I had to discover my character’s past along with him, which made writing frustrating at times, and glorious at other times.
To find out how he fit into the story, how he became both shape-shifting Werewolf and full-force vampire was a wild journey. And in many ways Slade discovers that you have to make your own path in the world. Choose your own family, much in the same way that the heroine Rania does, but for different reasons. By far, this third book in my Sons of Midnight mini-series was the most fun to write.
How can you not enjoy a motorcycle bad boy vampire paired up with a straight-laced cop with a chip on her shoulder? The chemistry alone kept me up writing some nights way past the time to go to sleep.
So can you have a half-breed Vampire? Sure! It’s an unusual mix, but some of the best stories come from the strangest titles.

by Theresa Meyers
978-1-4201-2124-7
Price is $6.99
Zebra paranormal romance with steampunk elements

They’re the Chosen—Winchester, Remington and Colt—brothers trained to hunt down supernatural beings using the latest steam-powered gadgetry. It’s a hard legacy to shoulder, and it’s about to get a lot more dangerous…

A DEVIL OF A JOB

Colt Jackson has gotten his name on many a wanted poster with success in the family business: hunting supernaturals across the frontier. Lately, though, there’s a sulfur stink in the wind and the Darkin population is exploding. A rift in the worlds is appearing. To close it, Colt will have to do the unthinkable and work with a demon to pass arcane boundaries no human alone can cross.

Except when he summons his demon, he doesn’t get some horned monstrosity: he gets a curvy redheaded succubus named Lilly, who’s willing to make a bargain to become human again. He also gets Lilly’s secret expertise on the machinations on the dark side of the rift. And her charm and cleverness help to get them out of what his silver-loaded pistol and mechanical horse can’t. Of course, when all hell breaks loose, he might have to sacrifice his soul. But what’s adventure without a little risk?

By Theresa Meyers

ISBN: 0373618603

ISBN13: 978-0373618606

Releases: May 24, 2011

FROM SWORN ENEMIES…

Dr. Rebecca Chamberlin hated nothing more than the vampires who had turned her loved ones into creatures of the night…until she became one herself. Now her experimental vaccine has become more urgent than ever, and has made her the target of vampire security chief Achilles Stefanos.

TO FORBIDDEN LOVERS.

Built like a god with golden hair and an irresistible allure, Achilles made her feel passion the way no mortal man had before. Beck could no more deny her craving for him than she could the hated bloodlust in her veins. But when her vaccine fell into the wrong hands, Beck has a difficult choice to make—one that challenged everything she’d always believed…..

Dark and dangerous, the Sons of Midnight are a temptation that few can resist!

Who Says?

Okay for a moment there I felt like Selena Gomez, Lord help me, but today to celebrate the big kickoff for The Vampire Who Loved Me I’m talking about loving what we read! Too often we’re put into situations where what we love to read is questioned.

”Oh, you read those books?”

“When are you going to read real books.”

“It’s just another vampire book.”

Well, my fellow fang-tastic fiends, it’s time to look at them and shout out a big, “Hell, yeah, that’s what I read and I love it!”

I love to read paranormal romances and I love to write them. It’s my thing. Vampires, shape-shifters, steampunk, urban fantasy filled with dark fae, elves, ghosts, witches and the like. They’re fun to write! I read them my the bagful. Some of my favorites are Yasmin Galenorne, Jessica Andersen, J.R. Ward, some of Linda Lael Miller's early vampires, Zoe Archer, Gail Carriger, Cherry Adair's Edge books, Christina Dodd, and Kim Harrison.

There are plenty of people who say, well older heroes aren't as sexy. Really? Take my hero in my latest book. He’s a Spartan warrior. Those were the toughest Greeks around. Remember the movie 300 with Gerard Butler, yeah. That. But Achilles is burdened with a profound handicap – he’s a Halfling. In my vampire world when a vampire and his/her mentor/maker bond together in a romantic way, they imprint with one another. The imprint is stronger than either vampire alone. It allows them to share each other’s powers, but also each other’s pain. So when Achilles, mentor, Ione, is killed by the Inquistion, it’s like half of him died, in a very literal sense. He’s a powerful warrior, with mad vampire skills, who can’t link to his emotions and who’d go insane without the contact to others in the Cascade Clan. Who says you can’t have a tortured hero who’s ancient and still every bit as sexy as today’s movie stars?

There's others who'll claim really smart women aren't appealing. Is that so? My heroine is a brianiac. One of those whiz kids who pretty much never had a normal life on several levels, first, because she was too smart, and second because she was mistresses’ child of a very powerful man (and no, not Arnold Schwarzenegger). But all the education, all the intelligence in the world can’t bring back her mother, or give her the family she’s always wanted…or keep her from turning into one of the very vampires she despises when here experimentation with a new vaccine to protect against the vampire virus goes terribly wrong. Who says being smart or powerful solves everything? Sometimes you have to go with your gut. Who says being smart ever kept you from being sexy?

Who says you can’t read about vampires, shapeshifters, witches, zombies, and still being improving your mind? Guess what. Einstein, yeah, the same guy who was the brilliant developer of the Theory of Relativity, said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” As long as you are feeding your imagination and using it, you are doing the most important work on the planet!

And of course, my latest and greatest pet peeve - the people who say we shouldn't read romance. Look, if you want to be one of those that has decided to be the voice of the more than 74.8 million readers of romance, and you want to tell them they are ruining themselves, by doing it, I'm going to wish you good luck with that, but I'm not going to be hopeful for your outcome. Why? Because romances are POSITIVE. They are books filled with people going up against the odds to make their world a better place, with characters who are finding ways to grow into the people who can have healthy, happy, long relationships with they people they love. I'm sorry, but if expecting a relationship to involve faithfulness, love, kindness, respect and appreciation for your partner is setting unrealistic expectations based on fantasy and fiction, then WTH is wrong with your reality? Why says you can't have the kind of relationship in a romance novel?

Okay, I've said my piece, probably more than that, with whipped cream and an extra cherry on top. But you get it. YOU are the reader. It's YOUR choice. Read what you love. Read what makes you smile. Read what would make you grab your best friend by the shoulder, shake her hard and tell her, you have to read this! And don't let anyone tell you different.

So let me ask you this, who says you shouldn't read what you love? And what would you say back to them?
